I've had my Alienware M14x R2 for a few years now, and it has always worked fine. However yesterday all sound from it has stopped. I have tried rebooting, restoring the system to before the issue started. Updated the BIOS, and every driver I could find. I also tried plugging in headphones and playing the audio through my TV via HDMI but neither of those worked either. The most infuriating thing is that everything reads as working normally in the troubleshooter and device manager. Recon 3di is detected and seems to be normal. when disabling and re-enabling the soundcard there is an audible *pop* as the speakers turn on. When I attempt to test the sound output it just displays "Failed to play test tone".

Did you make sure that the Default Device for the Playback devices is the speakers?

Yes it is, I've changed it back and forth to several devices and none of them play.

Try uninstalling the whole video card driver.
If after that you don't have any sound. It must be an issue with the motherboard.
