    Please help me answer what is the maximum data speeds for each one. Ex. 3gb (sata ii) or 6gb (sata iii).

    That is cool. Till now I thought the ODD slot was left at SATA 2 speeds. Thanks for the clarification.

    In some threads I posted that the ODD slot is SATA 2 only. I apologize for that.

    when i opened my alienware 14 , the optical drive had a sata 2 cable attached. Do we need to provide our own sata 3 cable, or is that some sort of special cable? The reason I say that is because my SSD primary drive has a bigger connector with extra pins. The optical drive is missing a little piece in comparison to the SSD sata cable.

    As far as I know there is no actual difference in SATA cables. The optical drive is replaced with a caddy that will most likely have a perfect fit for that cable, should be a simple plug and play using the correct parts.
