Trying to do some gaming. notice i can only run things on medium to low. Go to hit fn f5. It just says over and over again that "your graphics are automatically set to optimal performance". On the desktop it has intel integrated cards visible. GPUz says the same thing. Have done hard boot and everything. still very puzzled.

switching to discrete mode won't bring you a massive improvement.....as in both modes it's always the same gpu running with the same clockspeed
Discrete mode may bring higher stability to the framerate or maybe a few more fps....

    which gpu do u have?

750m. I ran benchmarks in just cause 2 this morning, It said that my graphics display driver was intel. Nvidia experience says i should beable to max the game, and i can only hit medium to high. Perhaps its a glitch, but it bothers me that it won't switch with Fn f5

I've been seeing people complaining about the same problem on this forum....and they all have the 750m
perhaps it's a common problem among the 750m model

The 750m doesnt have the 2 modes (atleast on mine) so fn + F5 is useless.. Its automatically on.. but for it to work properly with certain games you need to add the game to to a whitelist.

Go to the Nvidia control panel (click the arrow on the bottom right of the screen on the taskbar, right click on the green nvidia logo and click open nvidia control panel.)
Click manage 3d settings then program settings.
Find your game on the drop down list, if its not there click add and browse for it.
After selecting your game, go to "select preferred graphics processor" and change it to discrete"
    click apply.
    Launch game.
It should now be using the discrete graphics card.
