1. actually never since the reason to take it from a to b isnt there anymore for me
2. 9,5
3. good, bf3 runs fine
4. for the build in screen, yes
5. this is a clear choise of portability -
1. Yes
2. 7. I can't give it any higher because it comes with the lousiest customer service I've ever dealt with. I've sent in my laptop twice and they still haven't fixed the mic.
3. It's good, a lot more than I expected from it.
4. For the most part it does, but there's always room for improvement.
5. My next laptop will definitely not be an Alienware and that's completely due to their terrible customer service. -
1. I used to, but then I bought a macbook air because it was easier to take around.
2. 8 It's a really great laptop, doesn't feel cheap or lousy. Always a joy to use it.
3. Based on price, it is below its value, but it still games good, but like i said, it doesn't have decent performance for the price, but it's enough for me.
4.It does for the present, but in the future, I would want more power.
5. I bought the m14x as a laptop to take to school and to game on at home. But since it's portability isn't what I thought It would be, I would go the way with getting a really huge, really powerful gaming computer (m17x) and then an ultraportable computer for traveling. -
1. Yep. Take it every Thursday to school for video editing.
2. 9.5: I dont like the design as much as originally. Love the keyboard and trackpad, best Ive ever used, but the grilles and stuff are eh. I wouldnt mind a more simple design.
3. Fantastic, power of like an M17x R2 in half the size.
4. Yup. This isnt some super beast that handles Crysis 2 at 1080 20000000fps but its good enough to handle Medium through 2014 or so.
5. Depends. Im not a "brand" person. I buy any laptop that fulfills my needs. If I only buy Alienware, then yes. But if I decide I need a 13 inch laptop in 5 years and Sony suddenly has some dual GPU macbook-air thin 1000$ 13 inch laptop, it might go on my list. -
1. When I had mine I carried mine around daily on campus (five days a week)
2. 8 (The poor screen quality preventing from being a 10).
3. Above average for the size
4. It ran every game or program I threw at it (Civ 5, Adobe CS5)
5. As you can see I already switched to a m17x r3. This was mainly due to the poor screen quality and resolution. Its difficult to go from 1080p down to 900p. If the screen was upgraded in newer units I would switch back in the heart beat. -
2. I already rated this laptop 9/10 in another thread, so I'll stand by that number.
3. Outstanding.
4. Yes.
5. I will stay with the m14x over an m17x or m18x. I -could- possibly see moving up to an m15x if they revise and update it. But I hate hauling around laptops the size of a desk. I'd rather have a desktop than a 17" laptop. -
2. 9/10 only issue for me is the SATA III issue, but im still happy with the performance
3. personally great being my first gaming computer after switching from console
4. yes it runs most of the games i play to high-max
5. i would stick to it if they put a more powerful GPU -
1. No need. But I needed more mobility at home and that's why I bought it for.
2. 9.8 - Aside from the glossy screen, I would marry it and have it birth my children.
3. Supermegaduper
4. Absolutely and completely, better than I expected.
5. I'll stick with M14x. The others are just too big. I love the versatility of the M14x.
You're welcome.
Now go buy one. -
1.Do u often take ur laptop out for school or work?
only to mates houses for gaming sessions and around my house, my laptop is no desktop replacement (have a big desktop fig at home)
2.How much do you like this laptop (on scale 1-10)
10+, I added the plus because when i got this i didnt get the SSD with the laptop, since putting in an SSD + original HDD and caddy i've added the plus
3.what do u think of this laptop's performance? (poor, good, super)
For a laptop Super
4.As a gaming laptop, does 14x satisfy ur needs for gaming?
At this point in time it certainly does
5.If 14xr2,r3,r4....comes out in the future, will you still stick with 14x
product line or will you consider 17x or 18x
Depending on specs really, I will possible go to the m17 in the future -
2- 9, would be 9.5 if it doesnt run this hot and cant be 10 because of the Optimus and the GT555M.
3- Good, Super is reserve for M17x and M18x
4- Yes somewhat satisfy.
5- Nope, I consider the M17x instead, even though less portable but I prefer performance. -
-
1. No, but I take it to and from my girlfriend's apartment maybe 2-3 times a week.
2. 9.5/10!
3. Great! Plays Starcraft 2 like crazy awesome.
4. Sure does!
5. Sticking with the 14x line, because it's the perfect compromise of performance and portability. -
2) I like this laptop 8/10 I would say. I take 2 points off because the stability and performance are not there.
3) This is the most powerful ***14*** inch laptop in the world. But the performance still sucks for the price. I have a FULLY STOCKED M14x and it runs Battlefield 3 on Medium settings with textures on high settings with approximately 25-35 FPS but sometimes 45 if I lower the resolution from 1600x900 to 1366x768. Every game out now CAN run on medium settings, but that means in about 1 year it will probably not run anything. The GPU is SOLDERED into the motherboard so you cannot upgrade it -- this means that you are stuck with the GT 555m for the life of the laptop.
In addition, I am having overheating problems, random shutdowns and frequent BSOD errors. It is not acceptable and makes me think that this is a defective product.
4) No. Because this laptop is too expensive for the mediocre performance it delivers. For this price you can get a 15 inch Sager that will double the perfomance. So the price/performance is not worth it, but if you are using this laptop for everything BUT gaming, then I think it is BEAUTIFUL.
That said, it is still able to run Battlefield 3 which is very demanding. But the small screen makes it hard to see people far away. Also the screen supposedly is UNACCEPTABLY BAD in that its color gamut is 45% whereas for this price it should be like 95%.
5) I am already planning on either selling my M14x and buying an M18x or keeping my M14x, getting it repaired by Dell, and then buying a massive desktop (Dual nVidia GTX 590 maybe).
The bottom line: If you take out the gaming part, this is the best 14 inch laptop. The build and keyboard is superb and comfortable. This keyboard is the best to type on that I have ever used. Better than desktops even. And the backlighting really is something that I think all laptop brands should start offering. While the screen is really bad, I like the glossy/glass. The laptop is compact, easy to travel with (I am even returning to the United States from India later tonight with it). But I think this laptop has heat/stability issues whereas the bigger M17x and M18x do not have these problems.
If you are thinking about buying an M14x, then REMEMBER YOU HAVE ONLY ABOUT 21 DAYS TO RETURN IT and get a bigger M17x or M18x that will double the performance. You are paying a lot of money so if you want a laptop that will play games on High you need to get a bigger laptop.
I understand what Alienware was trying to do with the M14x and I think it is definitely a good idea to have a 14 inch, compact laptop that can game because they simply did not exist. They PERFECTED the form/shape/size of the M14x but the machine overheats, shuts down, gets BSOD's, and cannot run Battlefield 3 multiplayer on High or Ultra at all.
So as another bottom line:
The only two problems with the laptop are the GPU which is not good enough and the overheating (the fan noise is pretty loud also). Oh and the screen is supposedly REALLY bad but I do not know what a 95% gamut SUPER screen looks like so I cannot tell you for sure. -
Mister Bottom Line above forgot to mention one crucial thing:
No other 14" laptop will run BF3 on Medium/high at 30+ FPS.
Also, if you don't care about BF3 (like me and countless others) what are you worried about? -
I sold my m14x on here. The odd part is that individual now has a m17x r3. -
1. Yeah nearly daily to the university
2. I would say 8,5 there are minor issues with it (touchpad leaves a mark on the screen, also the lappy gets quite hot when gaming)
3. i can nearly play everything on high/ultra so i love it
4. as i described sure it does
5. as soon as the r2 comes out, or m15x r2 i may change it, if the new one, has better cooling system, or with the m15x reasonable weight. -
-
1. Not very often, I always in front of the computer at work though and a tablet is more convinient to cary around.
2. 7
3. Superb.
4. No. Screen is too glossy.
5. Only is they get rid of glossy screen, which is not going to happen, so probably not. -
1.Do u often take ur laptop out for school or work?
No it stays at home most of the time.
2.How much do you like this laptop (on scale 1-10)
8 because as nice of a laptop it is i still see room for improvement
3.what do u think of this laptop's performance? (poor, good, super)
with other laptops comparible to size the performance is super but overall it has good performance
4.As a gaming laptop, does 14x satisfy ur needs for gaming?
yes it does.
5.If 14xr2,r3,r4....comes out in the future, will you still stick with 14x product line or will you consider 17x or 18x
I like the size of this laptop but i might possibly go with a m17x in the future -
Weird Fallout4. It's gotta be defective. At 900p default Ultra I still pull 20fps, and when on my custom settings I get 30-40fps (900p, everything ultra with AA off, AF on 16x, and shadows on High)
-
1.Do u often take ur laptop out for school or work?
No, but I do often take it to friends' house's
2.How much do you like this laptop (on scale 1-10)
10
3.what do u think of this laptop's performance? (poor, good, super)
At first I wanted to say in between good and super, but honestly this thing has thrown me quite a few surprises I'm going full on Super.
4.As a gaming laptop, does 14x satisfy ur needs for gaming?
Very much so
5.If 14xr2,r3,r4....comes out in the future, will you still stick with 14x product line or will you consider 17x or 18x
When it comes time for a new laptop, I intend to look back at what's available from other brands (ASUS, MSI, etc) and not just be fixed on Alienware. If, however, I chose AW again I'd almost certainly stick with their current 14-15" model. The M17x would have to be REALLY close in price for me to get one. The M18x is just way too big for my liking. -

1.Do u often take ur laptop out for school or work?
Last weeks... almost every day. You never know when it gets usefull or you have some free time to play a game.
2.How much do you like this laptop (on scale 1-10)
Very bad at doing this. It's my first laptop I ever owned so I simply give it a 10
3.what do u think of this laptop's performance? (poor, good, super)
Great, however when it started to overheat it was bad. A technician came for a heatsink replacement. After doing that it seemed to be because of dust instead. So it's kinda a dust collector since I just got the laptop a half year now. I often have the laptop on my lap so I now bought a laptop cooler to keep my laptop cool whenever it needs to, but also to prevent dust coming inside.
4.As a gaming laptop, does 14x satisfy ur needs for gaming?
Yes
5.If 14xr2,r3,r4....comes out in the future, will you still stick with 14x product line or will you consider 17x or 18x
I'm not really thinking about that yet. I liked to save money for a nice laptop first to be able to game and play everywhere. So currently this m14x is the most powerful pc of mine. The next one will probably be a more powerfull self builded desktop pc, but that will be most likely also years from now. -
A quick survey for 14x users.......
