    Hey guys!,

I previously owned an m11xr1 and sold it recently to add my my savings account for a new M14x! I ordered the base model with the I7 2670QM (2.2ghz) all the rest standard, (4 gigs of RAM) (1.5 gig card) and was wondering how the overall performance on this laptop is!

When i owned my m11x, i got about 22 Frames average on BF3 and about 27 on BFBC2. Starcraft ran on ultra perfectly. Can i expect that his laptop will out-due the m11x in every way? (derp question i know).

I was an avid member of the m11x forum on notebookreview.com Glad to be joining this section of the Alienware forum and am eagerly waiting my m14x!

PS: i ordered last night(friday) and used the next day shipping, does that mean my laptop will arrive monday? Thanks Guys!

For bfbc2, the m14x runs it like it's tf2. I mean it will mostly stay at 60 fps (vsynced) and look amazing with a small over clock of 700 on the gpu core. Bf3 looks amazing as well. With the same over clock, I managed to put some detail settings on ultra, the rest on high, no aa, 2x filtering, 1600x900 resolution, and I get 25-45 fps. It will more than out do the m11x.

Unless you bought the quick ship model, which isn't available anymore, it takes 1.5-2 weeks to build, after it is built, it will take a day to get to you. I bought the quick ship model and 1 day shipping, got it in 27 hours or so.

Also, you didn't specify if you got the 1600x900 screen. If you didn't, i highly suggest you do. Not even suggest, you have to get it. There might be time to ask dell if you can add it in if you call. Im sure others would agree with me. Didn't mean to kind of force it on ya, you will get somewhat better fps with the stock screen, since its like 720p, but the lack of resolution will be an eye sore.

Nah, but as soon as the laptop is done, they SHOULD send it overnight, so expect it next week sometime (maybe tuesday or wednesday, depends if they begin building today or monday). I had regular shipping and it took exactly 7 days (ordered saturday, received next saturday).

You should definitely see a performance increase. BFBC2, without an overclock, runs at like 90fps for me on max (2x AA, 16X AF), so that alone shows how big of a difference it is.

Thanks for the responses guys!, i honestly can't wait, iv been without PC gaming for about 3 months now and its KILLING ME. BF3 on the xbox is just not the same haha

For the screen size, i intentionally didnt get the larger screen because most games i would be running would already by stressing the system (BF3, Skyrim) so i figured i would never be running in full resolution unless it was something like minecraft haha.

so will i see a huge decrease in FPS because i dont have 8 gigs of RAM or the 3 gig card?

You wont see a huge difference on the Ram and VRAM, maybe 3-4, although ram will depend on how much crap youre running in the background. And I play just about everything at 1600x900 except Metro 2033, it easily handles BF3 and Skyrim maxed. I would call about getting the 900p screen added

I just might do that now, and in terms of things running things in the background, thats no a problem, i never have things running in the background when gaming,

also, is it possible to make up that 3-4 FPS with gamebooster or anything?

Nah, you should be fine for a few years with the 1.5gb card, but it can make a difference in the future (Crysis and Skyrim already use more than 1.5gb of VRAM for me, but the difference is probably small at the moment). 4gb of RAM should be fine for gaming as long as you have at least 1.5gb or 2gb available for the game

As others have stated, get the 900p screen. You can always turn it down to to 720p if you need to. ;)

Thanks again for all the responses guys!, i am a little worried that i didn't get 6 or 8 gigs of RAM, not too worried about the GT555m as i heard that the 3gig version is pretty much useless right now. Im hoping i won't run into any FPS problems, and i have no problem running a game in medium to low settings, to me, its all about the frames!

Seriously, there is no difference in performance between 1,5 en 3,0gb vram. Not even 1%, so 3-4 fps is out of the question ;). This only helps in very large resolutions (2560x1440+), and this machine won't be able to handle those kind of settings anyway. Also more than 4GB of ram doesn't help in games either.
