I ordered my m14x, I was wondering if I can use 3 external monitors with it. Is it possible to do this while gaming?

    Thanks!

    The answer is no, sadly.
I think the best you can do is two external monitors plus the laptop's screen.

can't you use the display port, hdmi, and vga at the same time?

The video card won't output on all three at the same time, that's the problem.

On the R2, I can't get three screens to work :
I used to display via VGA, HDMI, and the internal screen of the R1, but I am unable to do this on the R2.
Can someone test it and tell me if it's a hardware limitation, or just a faulty configuration on my end ?

just found this in the release notes of 301.42:

"Added the following capabilities and features:
    • Accessory Display
Lets you connect a fourth display in extended mode to access other game controls
    or applications from the desktop."

    And:

    "Multiple Displays
The Release 300 drivers support the multiple display capability of GPUs that can drive
more than two displays at a time. Previous GPUs have been limited to driving two
displays at a time. Newer GPU designs feature the ability to drive up to four displays at a
time, with that number increasing depending on the design."

    may work now? unsure though.

Those notes are applicable only to Kepler GPUs. Fermi and earlier are limited to two monitor outputs per GPU and that will never change.

GT650m is indeed a Kepler GPU I think.

It looks like you are right but nVidia has been rebranding Fermi with 600 series part numbers so I'm a little unsure myself. 95% sure that's Kepler. Anyway, 500 cards definitely cannot output to three monitors and 600 mobile cards might depending on branding crap.

Well, as I said earlier, I WAS able to output to three monitors ( VGA + HDMI + Internal ) with the M14xR1 and its gt555m.

Maybe they are talking about external monitors.

edit : Anyway, we'll know for sure if this updates allows the gt650m to run three screens at once as soon as I can test it :)

I've read a little bit more, and this update isnt availible yet for the gt650 and above(gtx's). we may have to wait a little bit longer.

As eats7 said, we'll have to wait for the drivers to be released for the 650m

shouldnt have a problem when the the new driver comes out for the 650m(if that's what you have)

    Hi Super Octet,
Did you manage to get the M14X R2 to work with three monitors?
I jumped in and order three Dell UltraSharp U2412M and although they haven't arrived yet, I'm not finding any proof that the Alienware can handle the three monitors (DP, HDMI => DVI, VGA)

PS. I've just found a thread that mentioned you need a VGA => HDMI active converter to get the third screen to work (will of course need another HMDI => DVI adaptor as the U2412M doesn't have HDMI ?!?)

    Kind regards
    Steven
