    Hi all,

A quick question, i'm running a 2nd screen alongside the m14x via the VGA output and am only getting 1024x768. I've tried installing the latest drivers etc but no good. The screen is a Samsung synchmaster 2232bw which should hold a much higher resolution and does on my other laptop but not the m14x for some reason.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Hit the window button and P then change the resolution on the 2nd display, it should show the brand of your external monitor. Don't be afraid to rep me

still have the problem, max resolution i can set is 1024x768...obviously tried to change via the display settings before posting. Assuming its a VGA/driver issue so will continue to investigate...anyone else run a 2nd screen using VGA. Might need to look at HDMI as an alternative but means a monitor upgrade...any recommendations?

Well for me, I also sometime use VGA, but my max resolution is higher which is 1366x768p, you might also want to check the Intel Graphic Properties and the NVIDIA Control Panel for this problem too, because those also two handle the external monitor stuff. For me I use an old 32" HDTV, and once plug in the cable it work like charm.

Sometime, I'd also try to restart the laptop with the cable still plug in, so then when the computer start up it will usually do the POST (Power On Self Test) sequence, so it might detect the problem and might solve it then by the time you log in into the Welcome screen, the problem will be gone, at least for me it does.

use the intel graphics menu and create a custom resolution, then it will go as high as your monitor supports

I get that error sometimes. I just pull out the VGA cord and plug it back in really good to make sure its in all the way and it fixes it
