Title basically says it all... I can get a 240gb vertex 2 from a shop... or should i buy a 120gb vertex 3

is 550Mbps worth the less 120gb?

    looking for opinions....

    Thanks

What are the read/write speeds for both?

Vertex 2 240gb: up to 285MB/s read, up to 275MB/s write

Vertex 3 120gb: up to 550 MB/s read, up to 500 MB/s write (on a sata 3 board of course)

Now its out of stock.... Im guessing i could always get a passport drive with USB 3 if need be....

Im really leaning towards the vertex 3

Get the 240. I'd take space over speed any day. Besides, do you care about loading times that much that you'd half your storage?

hmmm well im seeing 550mbps that means system speed is doubled when loading windows and other files....

i currently run on my desktop on a 150gb velociraptor..... 110Mbps read 90Mbps write semi fast and when i look at the 550Mbps it makes me wonder......

i think i could sacrifice space and lug along a 1tb passport usb 3.0 drive if i really needed to

SSD is not just about transfer rate, IOPS does matter in day to day usage. Decent SSDs humiliated Velociraptor and SAS drives in random reading because of no moving parts involved.

I'd definitely get space over speed. 120GB is way too small these days ...especially since patched games now take 8-15GB per.

ok so 4KB Random Write: 60,000 IOPS in the vertex 3 vs 4k Random Write (Aligned): 50,000 IOPS

In the real world how much would 10,000 IOPS equate too?

    thanks again
