Can anyone explain to me why I get such horrible 3dmark05 scores on my x1600? I get 2800 on it and I have the 256mb version.

Make sure the laptop's plugged in, on Max Performance (or whatever it's called) mode. Also make sure to close all background processes that you can. I don't have any experience with that acer model, perhaps it's severely underclocked? You can try downloading ATITool and clocking it up to ATI specs (445/350 I think?)

As someone else pointed out earlier on another thread of yours, you have a X1600 with a 64-bit memory bus, which effectively cripples your card, no matter how much dedicated RAM the card has. The width of the memory bus limits how much data can be sent from the GDDR to the GPU at once. The most often used analogy is the highway one: picture it as lanes on a highway. With a 64-bit bus, I doubt the card could even use all 256MB. Technically, the card shouldn't have less than 128-bit according to ATI, but Acer has to cut corners somewhere to get you the price for your laptop. With the specs that you list, your computer is almost the exact same as my TM8204. Hope that helps :)

Oh well, I just hope the dual core fix for source games comes out soon. Hopefully I will see an increase in fps then.

I was having this problem on my 8204 some time ago.

I found out that everybody was doing their tests with the default settings. I was getting between 2800 and 2900 when i would change the test settings to 1680x1050. Then i just ran it with the default settings that the program started with. I ended up with around 4900 if i remember correctly.

    Hope this helps

I got about 4500 running with the default settings (since I'm not buying the full program I can't run on anything other than default settings). This is on an 8204 with the latest Omega Drivers

3DMark05 wouldn't run with mine for some reason (it freezes randomly on certain tests at different intervals). I'm sure it's a driver issue because I didn't have this before on older drivers. I don't really care about benchmarking this though. BTW, 4900 is really high for these X1600's. Last time I successfully ran 3DMark05 OC'ed at 495/500 (default 450/500) I got 4714 IIRC and that placed me 4th fastest of laptops with similar X1600's.
