sure, i know, an aspire 3000 is nearly outdated after nearly permanent use, but i like it and had no trouble ever until like 2 weeks now
    ._______
    |system:
    | - mobile amd sempron 3000+
    | - 1,8 GHz, 448 RAM
    | - winXPpro sp2 no updates ever (and i really like it that way)

    the trouble is some weird:

it started with external power supply not running right after activation of windows
usually after some minutes this changed and it recharged battery and everything fine

some later these minutes went more, until most times the external power supply didnt appear at all

at all this time the battery was recarged immediately as soon as i changed to standby-mode

and in last 2 days the external power supply SOMETIMES switched on without recharging the battery
as soon as i closed all running progs it started recharging
with one program it continued but starting a second prog it just went back on not recharging and everytime the comp had a little higher cpu-use it used the battery at exactly this time

i have no clue if this is even hardware or software related
i uninstalled all the new programs of the last month, checked registry wihout any result, reloaded all hardware drivers

i am thinking of opening my dear laptop just to chek if anything went loose but i doubt that as i quite never moved it at all

anybody any idea at all what might cause this? or *dream* a solution?

thanks in advance for even reading this weird matter

(my sys is running in german so i hope i gave the specific terms)

Can you test the notebook with another PSU with matching voltage/current properties?

unfortunately not as i dont know anybody with a similar psu '~'

but i think the power supply functions absolutely fine as it charges quickly in standby-mode and if it happens to be giving its enery to my comp i can use all kind of consumpting progs without any flaw

It might not have enough power to charge the battery and run the computer at the same time. Reasons for this behaviour could be blown capacitors or other evil things like that.

Additionally (although unrelated), you might consider upgrading to a version of Windows XP that is supported by MS ;)
