    Hi guys :)

v1.40 is out for 5315, 5720 & 7720, and for what I´ve read in changelog (HUGE) now also for many other models.

Has anyone already tried it? Does it solve the false power up issue (Bigooooooooooo :p). What about temps???. Any "new" issue (as always :p)

I can not try it till next Monday cause I´m out for work and didn´t bring my lappy, but I can not wait til' getting rid of that anoying double/triple power on!!!

    As always, kind regards :D

Gracias por postear tu experiencia!!! :) (thanks for your reply ;))

Hope it goes the same good way to everyone :D.

Changelog is significant, 6 versiones upgrade (1.34 to 1.40), hope the new models supported in this BIOS doesn´t bring new bad issues to "old" bios models.

Hope to hearing other experiences :)

Thanks in advance :D. Kind Regards :)

no,, just testing to see if the SOUND fixes put in 134 are still working,,,

after downgrading to 1.33 i had a slight stutter when starting videos..
1.34 fixed that,,, but i hated the temp and boot issues

so i'm just testing all the different fixes

i've used winflash 100's of times between 3 5315's.. with no probs..
just close all programs and shutdown all you can in the task bar.... and make sure you have AC power and a FULL battery,,, JUST IN CASE

no problems reported yet... only smashing success!!

    No problems here either.
@elbubi go for WinFlash as BigO said just make sure to close all programs first especially antivirus/firewall and stuff..browsers too..you know you're screwed if something went wrong with the update..so don't risk it :D

    Thanks to you both.

I´ve allways use DOSflash before, it gives me more "security" cause it has no background programs to mess with it, but this time I´ll try WINflash ;).

Glad to hear it´s a good upgrade!!! :D

    call ACER...

there are workarounds,,, but you'll find talking about passwords is a big no no here at NBR

i'll see what i can dig up... maybe flashing back to 1.34 or 1.33 might cause the old password to go back to working

has anyone experienced any issues with sound after upgrading??

the reason i ask is this::

after rebooting following the flash,,, everything was fine.. then about an hour later my sound quit working..... devices greyed out,,, no mixer device detected,,, strange stuff...

anyway after upgrading to the realtek driver version 1.95 everything started working rightaway... i'm just curious if it was a BIOS thing or some other gremlin in my laptop

    bigO

    EDIT::

temps are reported 15c too low in RMClock (30c at idle)

CPUID's hardware monitor shows real temps of 42 thru 47c

All is ok here, no sound problems, RMclock reports fine. I think I'm with R1.92.
Btw BigO check your RMclock settings, after BIOS update I always have to reconfig RMclock again.

yeah i noticed the flash caused my Voltage settings to deissappear...

reconfigured everything.... booted after a few hours of shutdown,, now temps are correct again??

    48 and 48.7c respectivly

so i guess it just needed a good reboot and the sensors might have needed to cool a bit for calibration w/ the new BIOS..

the last 3 hours is the only time it's been shutoff since i upgraded,, but it all looks good now

    thanks

Never done it. I suppose you'll need a dos bootable cd..and since your hdd is locked(and I suppose you can't access it even in DOS) you have to add the DOS BIOS files on the cd and run the update from there..However, I don't know if this will work with BIOS files located on the CD because according to the readme.txt provided by Acer:

If i extract those files to a cd and go to DOS mode, will it work?

Edit: Okay i just reverted to 1.29, and it accepted my HDD password.

WORD OF ADVISE! Everytime you upgrade your BIOS take off the HDD lock password first!

    ..but I don't see why not..If I were you I'd give it a shot..
    Check out this link.
One advice though: Make sure to burn the cd at the lowest speed possible, then do data check to make sure everything is working. Use new, perfectly clean CD.I don't know what may happen if, updating the bios, the CD-ROM drive/disk fails reading. Probably the worst.

glad to see you got it solved....
    congrats....

some sound advice... at first i thought the flash.exe program would be in memory.. so CD wouldn't matter,,, but then thinking about how it actually works... the flasher does pull up the DATA or FLASH.binary file off the source when the exe is ran... yeah,, yeah,,, i know i need to go back to sleep

    nite/morning to ya all

Well, if it wasnt for you to remind me of booting in DOS mode, i wouldn't remind myself of it, because of the stress or something lol So thank you very much :D

And i have to warn again: DISABLE THE HDD PASSWORD WHEN UPDATING THE BIOS!

Couldn´t agree more... For maximum security, disable ALL bios passwords and load defaults before upgrading. It´s not "essential", but it could save you some nasty headaches ;)

Regards, and glad to see you could solve it :D

I am having problems with hibernate on xp pro sp3. seems that when the system hibernates i have to power it on and off a few times for it to resume. this has happened before with other bios revisions. Wondering if it is an XP problem or a bios problem. It does resume back to pre hibernate state it just annoying to have to power up and down

    EDIT

After resume from Hibernate CPUID showing 2C (HAHA)

    After reboot CPUID Showing 23C

Idleing now at 16C -- WAY LOW

Fan seems to be running on superlow speed constantly

    are these bios errors?

    Should i reflash?

i have sleep, suspend and hibernate turned off...so i can't be of much help there..

as far as flashing the BIOS again... i'd re-download it before flashing... try to remove as much doubt as possible...

if problems persist,, go back to BIOS 1.33
    those are my suggestions

I upgraded to v1.4 and then started having problems with my broadcom ethernet adapter not being recognized by windows. After uninstalling, reinstalling, looking for the latest drivers, the problem persisted. I also had more trouble with my wireless connection stability after coming out of hibernation. And I'm the only person still using vista... so, going back to v1.33, everything seems back to normal..

Temps reported incorrectly issue is back. Right now RMclock reports 20ºC, HWmonitor confirms. I noticed that this happens when the computer is idle for a long time(no standby, no hibernate just idle with closed lid).

i downloaded and install SP3 and my hibernate screwed up on me. but i run disk cleaner and did an error check after restart.then after all that a defrag cured the problem.
Why this worked i don't know, tried the microsoft site with no answer. but it does seem like a hardware (HDD)problem. it seems like it needs a lot of clean space for hibernate to work.

am i the only one still experiencing the COLD BOOT issue...

where you have to power-up// hold power button 5 secs to shutdown,, then power-up again to actually get a POST screen

BTW i noticed my HDD light functions when ejecting the CD durring the COLD BOOT "lock up"??

wonder if this is all due to HDD power up issues? this HDD is not the one shipped w/ the system... but is an ACER replacement??

Sad to hear that dear Bigo... That issue was precisely why I wanted this upgrade so bad.. I will surely experience it again since I had it before just like you. (with v1.34)

I would not say it has something to do with "original/replacement" HDD´s, mine's is the original one and nevertheless I was suffering cold boot problems. However, I do think (as you) it´s Ide/Sata related, I got hdd led with dvd too, but if during cold boot I press F12 to enter boot menu, it crashes at "Entering Boot Menu", like there´s some issue detecting or starting any Ide/Sata device, more likely the hdd, at least for me... (it freezes also if a try to enter setup). With normal boots, of course none of the previous occurs.

    As Always, Kindest Regards.
