why is the system partition so huge (35gb) when it only uses a fraction of this size for the files?

I'm referring to the recovery partition as the hard drive is divided in to 2 partitions.

Can this be reduced to give the working partition more space?

You can use Partition Magic to re-size the partitions in Windows.

there must be some reason why they make this partition so huge. I'm keen to find out why if anyone happens to know.

do you know that for a fact? I can see this on the Acer promotional blurb. This is how we do things. We make outrageous use of the 35gb partition so we can use the sum total of 1.5gb. This is just how we do things. Signed Acer Management.
