    Hey,
Anyone posted instructions on how to replace the HD on this model? I looked through the threads couldn't find anything but it seems to be a common issue with these machines.

Perhaps if someone has posted they could make it a sticky? Or someone can point me to post?

Received my new unit today along with 7200rpm HD to install! [ :)]

    Tommy,

If you're still looking on how to do the upgrade, I think it's located on the underside of the unit in the front right corner. Just take that big cover plate off and it'll give you access to the memory and HDD. Just remove the HDD and swap. Make sure you take the mounting hardware off the old drive and put onto the new drive.

Here's the link to the manuals for this unit, thank Tiggr_r1 for the link. Just select the UK PDF and goto page 52 of the manual. This shows how to remove the plate for the memory, but as you can see, it also covers the HDD.

Just odered TM 3201 xci :). When I replace HD, can I just do clean Win XP reinstall on a new HD? Also, does this model have a bluetooth?

I was asking about bluetooth because TM3201xci specs on Acer website don't say anything about bluetooth. Now I am confused. Does this model has a bluetooth or not?

Just a quick update. What's the best hard drive to replace this noticeably slow 4200rpm drive in the Acer 3201XCI. If someone can provide the model no. brand, etc.. I would be most grateful.

    I recommend the Hitachi 7K60. It's what I put in. On Newegg it's the HTS726060M9AT00. It's 7200 rpm and 60 gig.

I'm having trouble finding a 7200rpm notebook hdd here in Hong Kong. The only 7200rpm one I found had only 2MB cache, is this normal? Alot of the notbook hdds had 8MB cache and even 16MB. They were not 7200rpm though.

    Hey Chaisey,

The HDD should go in pretty easy. I just looked at the picture on the manual and looks similar to the HDD setup on some of the older Toshiba's I used to repair. There might be a connector/ribbon cable the drive slides off.

Regarding XP, the system should detect some of your hardware, but not all. The system is pretty new and therefore the hardware might not be in XP's lists. Just download all the drivers from the FTP site and burn it to CD. This way, you don't get caught without network drivers if the system doesn't have the drivers. Can't surf the web without network drivers.
