    Hi,

I am considering replacing my combo drive with a dvd burner. I have learned that the majority of the new bare drives are sold with Cable Select setting. How could I find out which mode does my existing drive use? Are there any jumpers on slim drives?

There are not jumpers on slim optical drives. Master and slave settings are controlled by the firmware or dip switches in the drive. I had a NEC ND-5500A. It came set as master. I think the 6500 is the same.

    Hi,

The one that currently sits in the bay is secondary master, so it could have both MASTER and CS setting. Would it be possible to replace it with a new CS drive?

I have found a very good article about replacing slim optical drives, but unfortunately it is in German and my German knowledge is only mediocre. I managed to get an overall picture of the whole article, but tiny details are unclear.
