I spent nearly a grand on a laptop and it cant handle what a games console can do, fair enough im venting, alls i did today was upgrade the graphics drivers and its bye bye to my blu ray player, upgrading to win 7 takes away my finger print reader and touch sensitive controls, plus a catalogue of other crap to keep the bloody thing working.

Its expensive, time consuming and infuriating, turning on a ps3 and just playing the sodding game is an absolute luxury, i have the highest respect for all you pc fans out there, youre made of stronger stuff than me.

well yeah it can be a pita definitely. but thats one of the major reasons for nbr, to help each other out.
well a laptop can do more thing than game actually, and if youre just getting it to play games i think that defeats the purpose of having a laptop.
but if you consider the price of getting a ps3 and a normal laptop versus the price of getting a single high end laptop, then the highend laptop will start to make sense.
if you picked the right specs though you could have gotten a system much much better than a ps3 in graphic quality.
if you have the time and the inclination, you may want to give your lappy another go :)

    well just my 2 bits

You're not very technologically literate are you? So you're frustrated because you tried to upgrade your graphics driver, and you lost some other functionality in the process, and so after one try you're giving up on pc's?
Well, enjoy your console, and the rest of us will enjoy our pc games. But it's not your fault, pc's aren't for everyone.

You really just need to know what you're doing with PC gaming. If you know what you're doing, then there are advantages over console gaming

You presumably installed a modded graphics driver, which stops Blu-Rays from working. Stick to official drivers. And your upgrade to Windows 7 means you have to reinstall drivers for the components that no longer work, this is standard.

Not only that, but a lot of console ports are poorly coded for PC, so it requires a beast of a machine to run, when it really shouldn't.

Once you get your PC up and running smoothly, it's pretty straightforward. The most gratifying experience will be with games you love and getting all the free added mods to extend your gaming experience a lot longer.

Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask for help here. Some people are a little rough with newcomers (notice I didn't use the term "newb" or "noob"), but just ignore them.
