Maybe your BIOS is having an issue. Try to locate the CMOS battery for the BIOS, unplug it for a minute or two and plug it back in. See if that works.

Well...I'm guessing you have to open up the back panel of your computer and try to find a round battery to unplug. In some laptops, this part is unservicable (meaning you have to take the whole computer apart to get to it; poor design), but I think in most laptops you should find some round battery in there to unplug and put it back in. If that doesn't work, you can try seeing if the processor, hard drive, or RAM has gone bad (it's known to happen). If all else fails, you will need to send it in for servicing.

any indacation the hard drive is running ?
    have you tried FN+F5 ?

also on most acer laptops there is a COMS reset under the ram.
so before you start pulling the laptop to bits try this.
unplug power, take out battery. then hold down the power on button for 15 seconds.try this first then get back to me.

ok let me do some looking for you on the coms reset tabs(normaly under ram)
all you do is conect the two solder points with a paperclip....

are you getting a flashing cursor.?
can you try connecting an external monitor?
EDIT: the power reset should have powerd down the cmos
can you get into the bios screen?

cnt get onto the bios no the screen doesnt come on at all because nothing loads at all. no noise coming from the laptop what so ever unless i put a disc in. then when i turn it off theres jst a slight click sound of it going off. jst seems totally lifeless - and it was working perfectly last nite :(

I think you'll only see two pins, no jumper. That is way you'll need a paperclip or a copper wire or something. I believe there was some writing aside saying "CMOS reset or something" and yes, it should be below the RAM(below, NOT under).

ACER have two ways of resetting the cmos one is the power button hold down for 15-20 seconds with no power connected to the laptop.
the other is the jumpers under the ram, the jumpers will have the JP1 lettering printed near them..you will need a magnifying glass to see it.

with all things like this TAKE CARE.

MOON Mate it sounds like mobo is shagged mate

    Enclosure, I believe.

Also, I think it's not a slang, I think it's "caddie" in UK and "enclosure" in US.

    sorry Moon mate.
a caddie is an enclosure you yourself put an hard drive in , say to retreive data from a broken pc/laptop or if you have an old hard drive just collecting dust in a draw put that in a caddie .so you can use it to store back-ups,mp3s and the film collection ;)

    see link.
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?menuno=84399

    i have a couple for 2.5 & 3.5 inch drives.

its a good way of using old hard drives and saves on using dvd/cd's.

i can hot swap mine, so I just drop the hard drive in an vista just see's it. i open it in file view and bingo i can get all my lost info back :D

on the hard drive is a data sticker so you know what its and how to connect it to the caddie..
    good luck
    Phil :D
