sat there watching the tele and put my pint of water down next to my 5920g and it slipped of the mat and sloshed a quarter of a pint of water across the keyboard
2 seconds later it turns off and i turn it on its side and a load of water comes out
damn im so carefull normally .......is there any hope or have i fecked it up good style!
is there some kind of cut out on these machines or is it a warrenty jobby!
-
Drain all the water off that you can, and let it dry for a couple days. Take the battery out, make sure it's unplugged. Hopefully it just cut itself out, and will recover. If not, it will need warranty work. I've seen it go both ways, so no way to tell other than wait. Good luck!
-
Do not turn it on at least 1-2 days.Clean as much as water you can(I think you can use hair Dryer or something like that....)
-
thanks for the reply guys
ive left the laptop drying out on its side
when the laptop first cut out the charging light was still on ....do you reckon this is a good sign
also will opening the back of the laptop void my warrenty ive already removed the back panel where the ram and fan are and theres no water there
will 1-2 days do it,iwould have thought i would have to leave it a lot longer -
Agree with all the above.
Electronics can sometimes fix themselves.
I had a tamagotchi keyring device once that I accidentally left in the washing machine. When it came out, it didn't work. I tried it the next day, and it still didn't work.
Eventually I just left it somewere, and found it again after 2 months. It worked perfectly, and was clean too
When you dry it, make sure you leave it open. Arrange it like a house /\, and preferably somewhere it can catch a draft, that should help it dry faster. -
i dont think il be turning it on for at least a week
i wanna take the back off ...will that void my warrenty -
Removing back panel will remove acer security sticker and void your warranty
-
Aiks, you took off you back panel? This is no good...
-
take the battery out ....quick.....
-
good luck, man! Hope the drying works out good -
i unplugged and took the battery out as soon as i done it
im just hoping the god of laptops is looking down on my poor soaked 5920g -
shouldnt it be left on the keyboard side? flat down with the lid and the bottom of the lappie facing up?
i hope u tried to minimize movement >.< or all that water went into even more places...
yes! hairdryer and patience.
my gosh u bought an expensive lappy. im looking at "popular acer laptops" on the left side and it says $1849... -
yes it was 799 english pounds and only 2 month old
boohoo -

Good luck! Hopefully everything will work out for you eventually.
-
Ah sorry to hear that, but please do what th other members are saying which is don't use the laptop yet and try to drain the water out of the keyboard area by a hair dryer or something similar. I even heard some people are able to "pop-up" the keyboards, but not sure how that works..
-
just make sure its all dry & try to boot(leve the battery out so you can cut it off quik if something bad happens) -
I took off my back panel and there was no sticker...
-
We want an UPDATE ASAP after you turn it on.
Thanks -
-
you lot will be the first to know lol ive got everything crossed i tell you
-
just had a lok on how to remove keyboard.on my aspire its two screws then you have to ping it out, there are lugs all round the keyboard.its not a hard job..
-
If it works again sell it ASAP. Water damage WILL affect the Lappy later on.
-
dont say that teejay i want to keep it

Disregard this advice at your own peril.
I have been a TV Tech for 17 years and I know what water does to copper PCB tracks and/or solder connections. They will corrode and give you a whole heap of problems..........later. -
I think he meant the advice is terrible unless you clearly mention to the buyer what has happened to the laptop.
Otherwise it's gonna be selling a time-bomb. -
Point is: Once a PCB (any) has had water or fluid damage you are going to pick up problems later. Not always through the PCB corroding but also individual components legs simply rusting off.......
So, if you buy a second hand lappy try to make sure it did not have any fluid damage (difficult to pick up on recent dried spillage). And if someone is trying to sell a lappie to you ask plenty questions. Like the obvious "has this lappie had any fluid damage?" Physical damage is easy to spot. Fluid damage can take months before it shows as an issue. Then its normally too late and you are out of pocket
But some people will buy water or fluid damaged items. I have done it successfully with TV's. If the seller is honest and upfront with me and tells me the history (normally a potplant was on top of the TV and someone watered it....) I can repair the chassis. Methylated Spirits to wash the entire chassis/PCB and the sun to then dry it are great for stopping corrosion (if caught in time).
Lappies are another animal. Multi layered PCB's etc. No telling what will corrode within the PCB multilayer tracks. Wet = Sell. -
well it worked for a min or two .............
i shut it down or thought id shut it down and left it on the side with its battery in and it started beeping constantly so i ran over and took the battery out
now when booting it stops at the acer screen -
nutz
give it a day then set fire to it and say "it was the battery" -
Hey anthony99....
What do you do if this happens to you?
-
I really need to believe this last pic is a fake...
otherwise I may have a stroke...

bordering a heart attack... -
Bigspin you are so cruel... Ban on you!!!
One more thing- BAD DOG!!! -
-
Since I have my new laptop I have one new rule : never put drinks on the same table than the laptop.
-
cheers big spin
how much do u reckon it will cost to fix if the motherboards borked -
I'm sure urine acid will kill his lappy.
BTW Sorry if i hurt you by showing this pic -
-
-
i might as well throw it in the bin
-
thats 1 expensive lesson to learn
-
-
im semi sure...............i left the battery in after it booted ok and after a few mins it started beeping cont when it was supposed to be switched off
-
........OMG its booting ok now
-
i think it just needs drying out fully
-
i think i will have a cup of tea to celbrate
-
BTW leave it alone at least extra few days -
oh well so it's well and truly shagged then
bad dog
