XP installation didn't detect my harddrive, any idea?

And for any drivers such as vga, sound, webcam, wifi. Where can I get that?

    Thank you.

Most like you hard disk is sata and it will need sata floppy for disk you ether need to make sata floppy disk and use that with usb floppy or intregrate you sata driver into you xp disk

look for nlite sata on fourm am sure you will find it

As andyasselin already said, the hard disk is likely to be SATA. Windows XP setup cannot assign drivers to the device, and so it can't be seen by it. Using a program called nLite, you can create a new disc with both Windows setup and the SATA drivers on it, so that Windows will be able to recognise the drivers. The SATA drivers should be on the Acer website.

Hi all, I'm new here. Since I face the same prob for two days now i keep searching the forums for an answer.
Well I have an Acer Aspire 5310 and I tried to downgrade it as well. When I reboot, "BOOTMGR is missing" keeps coming up so I figured out about how nLite can help. Now I've stucked because I can't find the proper SATA drivers to insert or I may search to wrong sites.
Here http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5310.html every driver I see is "for Vista". I tried to insert the "Storage Driver-Intel V7.5.0.1017 for Vista(WHQL)" in case it worked for XP but it didn't. I also tried to insert the driver I found at the site of Intel but that didn't work either. There is a message saying "Be sure that you have chosen only the proper drivers for your Windows edition. For example, if you insert 64bit drivers on a 32bit edition... blah blah... And then it gives me 3 options: All (active), OK (inactive) and Cancel (active), so I can't move to the next step.
I don't have any idea of how to search or where to search anymore (call me a newbie...)
Please, if someone can give a link or any kind of info, it would be appreciated...

PS. my apologizies for bad english

When first boot press f2 or whatever it says on screen and change hd setting to ide instead of sata... this should allow xp to see hd.

Drivers from acer.com... the euro site has ftp site also but can get similar drivers from NA site as well.

if your bios is the original acer bios f2 wont help you, it dozent have the option to change the HDD-sata to HDD-ide
(i havent tried updating my bios, reason, its risky, since the nlite aproach works, why risk) if you dont want to put little elbow grease acer service center offers to "downgrade" (that is their service rep's term) & install xp that is for a certain fee..... just my 2 cents

    * try checking ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_xp_not_authorized/aspire_4320_4720/
download all the appropriate drivers, be aware if your using 32bit or 64bit installation of your OS, these are 2 different

** if you dont have external FDD you have to integrate the sata drivers
then you have to integrate the sata driver in your win xp install cd,
after driver integration, proceed and use your nlited winxp installer

i got everything working in win xp pro 32bit, however in 64bit winxp pro, i cant make the sound working, even tried using the original realtek HD sound driver that came from the component vendors website.

a word of advice , if you dont want to loose the D2D recovery function of your laptop stick with the pre installed vista, make sure you have at least burned the factory recovery cd's, i learned everything the hard way, i managed to dump vista, installed xp , tried ubuntu linux , even toyed with it having triple boot vista, xp, & ubuntu, but later on stick with pure ubuntu***

    personal note:

vista = short battery life even doing surfing only via wi-fi & every setting is on low power consumption

xp = longer than vista on same task

ubuntu 8.04 = same wiht xp & everything works out of the box except for the special buttons (i.e. empowering tech button & the extra configurable button on the right side of Bluetooth and the EU & USD sign near the up down left right button)

    * Dont ask for files from me, i got the link from http://forum.notebookreview.com/archive/index.php/t-156238.html

** i am not responsible to what happened in your laptop, remember to always back-up , do this at your own risk, or you have to suffer from acer "no warranty on software" policy

*** im not promoting certain brand of OS, its up to you, just don't blame me if anything happened to your lappie
im not connected with any companies mentioned above.

****acer, win xp , win vista, nlite, realtek & ubuntu trademarks are owned by their respective owner
