Hard drives can be found either on the bottom of the laptop OR underneath the keyboard, or a caddy from the front. If all else fails, it's under the keyboard.

Take out the battery at the front of the unit; the hard drive is tucked away behind there :)

Is it straightforward to upgrade the hard drive on an Acer 5050 to a Hitachi 7K200? I was looking at that too, but was unsure about the interface being compatible. Slightly off topic, how much RAM is it worth putting in an Acer 5050 - can the CPUs actually use 4GB, or are their caches too small?
    Thanks for any info

I've learned by surfin a few sites, that Windows Vista 32bit will not be able to utilize all 4GB or RAM should you install it. I've read Vista 32bit can use a maximum of 2.x - 3.6GB... the rest of the memory it cannot address.

Hope that helps. I've got the Aspire 9410-4872, and it only supports a maximum of 2GB of memory. I installed two 1GB dimms and it's more than sufficient for my needs!

    Hope that helps!
