    Hello,

I'm thinking of getting a travelmate 8006, but the thing which are inadequate are the memory and the hard drive speed. Upgrading one of the memory modules looks easy (there is a panel on the base of the machine).

However, it is unclear how easy to access the other memory module and hard drive. Has anybody upgraded either of these and if so how easy was it?

I'm competent with a screwdriver and have built/upgraded several desktop machines but I don't want to end up with a dead or unreliable laptop and no guarantee.

    Cheers.

Since this unit is the same design as the Acer Ferrari, I looked at the Ferrari's underside and it looks like it's located on the left side, near the front. It might be located behind the audio connector plate. Looks like there's 2 screws that get remove that may reveal the HDD. You may also want to checkout Acer's support site, they usually list things like this.

The 2nd memory module should be located under the keyboard like almost every other system on the market. Again, Acer's site should also list the directions on changing the modules as well.

    Aha it you again Vb,

Just to say cheers for replying. The sellers (www.shoplaptop.co.uk) are upgrading the drive and memory for me. My main concern was invalidating the warrantee, but as an authorised reseller the warantee remains valid.

Shame really as I was looking forward to getting my screwdrivers out[ :D]
