    graphics problems

    i have a problem with an acer travelmate 242lc....the picture on the screen starts to roll and then quickly goes to just vertical lines, if i am quick enough and lightly tap the screen it comes back. if i am not quick enough the screen goes totaly blank, but if i let it go into standby, when i wake it up it is fine again........any idea's anyone???

    Check the drivers first! if you have no luck there "if " your within your warranty period contact acer and send it to them maybe they will repair it, definatly sounds like a screen failure!

    What type of graphics card are you using? As Tonyy said, try updating those first.

    Otherwise, if you are still within the warranty period, then I'd give Acer a call, they are normally pretty helpful.

    It sounds like you may be having a connection issue with the monitor, because it doesn't sound like a software problem if you touch the screen and it fixes it...

    i have installed the latest drivers, and there is no change, and i am over the first year so no help from acer :( ...any more idea's all welcom :)

    To be honest your dealing with probably one of the most expensive and difficult parts to fix on a laptop! my suggestion would be to bite the bullet and take it along to reputable repair centre and get them to repair it that way you have some cover while it's fixed,if you try yourself there's no comeback if you damage it beyond repair! sorry i could'nt give you more positive news.
