Got my new Acer 1681 couple days ago, and have absolutely no complaints. Ordered it from newegg, they did a great job. Of course, I havn't had to return it...which would have cost 15% restocking fee and that's if they would take it back.

It's stylish, probably not as much as the 2012wlmi or the 2025wlmi which I wanted originally, but nevertheless pretty much one of the best looking laptops out there IMO.

First time I own a widescreen, so the width kindo get in the way at times. My vaio 14.1" in comparison is like 1/4 smaller width. Also, it has more vertical visibility. But still great screen.

Keyboard is not like the TM series, it's nice and straight. No 5 degree stuff.

It runs ultraquiet, doens't heat up much, battery lasts around 2 hours usually. I'm going to get the 8-cell once I feel the need to. I used it plugged into the power anyways, so I don't need another battery. But I will get it at some point, and will have a woopping 7.5 hours of battery life.

Runs fast. Overall, I'm willing to bet it's the best notebook you can get for under 1300 bucks. I've researched for 5 months, and so I've seen quite a few.

I'm using it along with a 19" flat screen, with dual monitor capability, can't complain. Works great. I would advise to to anyone who is on a budget and wants the best for the buck.

Thanx Acer for making the best notebooks for the chapest price! Don't know how you make a profit!

No I havn't tried putting blank DVDs in there yet. I have put in DVD movies and software/game CDs. They run just fine.

and yes, I meant 5 + 2.5 hours of total power. I would hope I would never need 7.5 hours of continuous, uninterrupted need to use the laptop away from a power cord. Gotta go to the bathroom and look ouside the window every once in a while too ;)

I just bought a cooling pad for it. Not that it really needs it, but I did anyways. It used to run at 51 degrees idling. Would go up to 55 every once in a while while browsing the net or using micorsoft programs. Now steady state is 41 degrees (10 less)...even though it's reading 50 right now and I don't know why...I think plugging it into the wall might make a difference...I'm recharging my batt...so that's probably what it is...

but I'm not too concerned...fan doesn't kick in until 60 degrees...
