For the past few months I have been considering some upgrades to my acer and have been asking questions on this forum alot.

I have a list of things that I want to upgrade. Because this is just a hobby I won't be upgrading all at once, so this will be in the order that I would like to upgrade.

    1. intel core 2 extreme x9000 - alot of the newer games out now are really cpu intensive. And I have found a seller on ebay selling these for $170

    2. video card - haven't made up my mind yet, but I would like to get the nvidia 9600m GT unless there is a more powerful mxm II card that I don't know about yet.

    3. E-gpu x2 setup with my mini pcie slots. I am thinking about a GTX 550, or a GTX 560. Also this can be used with another laptop if I decide to sell my acer at some point, or acquire another laptop with a more powerful i5 or i7 cpu.

    4. 1080p screen - can't live with 1366x768 anymore!

I think that's about it - for now.... let me know what you think!

*edit* I know alot of people are gonna be screaming at me to UPGRADE TO A MORE CAPABLE SYSTEM! but I like this one... :D I don't think I could find a more reliable system if I tried, and this is the only laptop I have owned besides my sager that doesn't overheat like CRAZY. I guess I would consider ditching this machine if someone had a aspire 8935g they would sell me...

I'm not gonna scream "crazy" for once. 6920G is a very nice laptop build with attention to detail (which shows when you try to dismantle it  )

Full HD screen won't be a problem but will be pricey- these 16" CCFL screens are not being manufactured anymore so prices are quite high.

It will be hard but you shoulod probably try to secure a Radeon HD 4670 which is quite a lot faster than 9600M GT. Hard to get one of these especially with DDR3 but it's worth trying.

4650 is much better, on par with the GT 330M.

However, the only DDR3 4650 on the market is the Toshiba one, which needs SMD modding to work in an Acer.

Is it pretty simple to get working? I am going for a ddr3 card no matter what, and if my options are between a better ddr2 card and a slower ddr3 card I will be buying the ddr3 hands down.

I have done plenty with bios mods and stuff, and am not afraid of getting my hands dirty, so if this has been done I am willing to try it.

It involves soldering several 0402s and a SOIC8. If you don't know what a 0402 or a SOIC8 is, then you are probably not prepared for doing the mod.

yeah, if I'm right the 0402 are micro capacitors. I can solder... but would rather get someone else to do that for me.

As far as the soic8 goes I have no idea what that is :)

*edit* has anyone ever tried a mxm III in an mxm II slot? I think it would fit with a case mod and if it would that would be freaking awesome
