I have an Aspire 5100 Model BL51 Part Number LX.ABHOJ.006 and did a recovery using the <ALT> + <F10> function. I followed the onscreen prompts and then it was loading and stopped with an error of RECOVERY FAILED and error code of 0xf0000024. I do not have any recovery CDs or DVD. How can I restore this to the factory state. The notebook had virus and spyware that is why I had to do recovery.

I have a Windows XP Professional software. Can I load this OS on the notebook without deleting or messing around with the hidden partition that contains the recovery files. Is it hard to get the drivers?

    I would appreciate your help.

First off with your specific error with erecovery I would contact acer support via email and describe your problem to them and see what they say to you.

Now to answer your other questions... If you have a copy of windows XP pro then you can install that on the aspire 5100 however doing this will stop the alt+f10 functionality (disk to disk recovery) simply because it will overwrite acer's special master boot record (MBR). This is up to you but as I said you can install your copy of XP pro and it will work as expected. Also when you are setting up and installing XP don't touch or delete the PQservice partition at any point as that is what the recovery partition is called!

As for drivers you can get them for XP from the acer euro site located here

    Hope this helps you

Thanks, Evolution. I will try your advice. I know that it could be done. I just want a second opinion. Thanks again!

    Evolution,
I need your help again. The HDD shows 3 partitions; 1) - :partition 1<EISA> Utilities, 2) Partition 2<Acer>, 3) Partition 3<Acerdata>. Partition 1 has about 5Gig so it must be the hidden partition. Do I have to delete the partition and then create a partition to install the OS, then format? Which partition should I select? Thank you.

I just finished doing some checking for you by sticking in my XP pro disc...

Partition 1 EIAS utilities is definitely the recovery partition (normally hidden) don't touch that if you ever want to get the factory windows back onto the notebook

Partition 2 which the default from the factory was called "ACER" is the main partition or drive C which had the previous install of windows on it. This is the partition you want to select to install XP pro onto. Since you have a previous version of XP on your system inorder to use this partition you will have to delete it so it becomes unpartitioned space and then recreate it using the raw unpartitioned space (just like you said in your post). Later when windows asks you whether to do a complete format or a quick format you probably should chose the complete format on that new partition (this takes longer but is more thorough). If you are unsure about th

Partition 3 is the data partition which was called acerdata this was set in place at the factory so that you could backup your data files to this partition so that when it came to re-installing windows the data would not be lost.
All acer hard drives from the factory are setup with these 3 partitions by default. So to sum it up partition 2 is the partition you should use as you will need to wipe this partition to get rid of the previous windows install, partition 1 should not be touched and partition 3 is your data partition it's use explained before.

Have you sent an email to acer tech support explaining your erecovery problem because you shouldn't have gotten any errors with that in the first place.

Thanks again, Evolution. I sent an email to Acer and they say that erecovery might not be available anymore or corrupted. I was told to order recovery disc. This will take a while and I will just have to install another OS. You've been very helpful.
