I wasn't sure if this should go in Software, but figured since it was Acer specific, I'll post it here.

I just bought an AS3004WLMI (great deal at CircuitCity), and it doesn't have EPM. I looked on Acer's site, and it's not in the download list for the 3000 series. So my question is, can I download it for a different model and use it (would it work?), or should I use 3rd party like NHC?

NHC is a great program. I am pretty sure that ePM is made a little differently for each acer. It controls bluetooth and wifi, firewire and cardbus. You could try installing an ePM for another aspire series notebook -- I don't think that would do any harm.

I doubt ePM on a non-Centrino/Pentium-M system would work. I tried installing it on my Turion 64. Didn't work. It will install, just won't do anything. You are stuck with the Windows Power Options in Control Panel.

Forget ePowerManagement. My 5672 came with all that and I took them all out. Initially my process count was 60+ and the boot up was real slow. Once I disabled them all, the boot up was quick and the process count is only around 36-40.

If you want to see what it feels like to do a clean install, do

    Start > Run
    Type in "msconfig"
    Hit OK
Goto "Start Up" tab and hit "Disable All"

Just reenable the really essential stuff like virus scan and for me NHC.

Give it a try, you will probably decide to uninstall Acer Empowering suite and the Launch Manager. And, I really don't miss anything either.

WOW! you are lucky. I hated ePM - and doing away with it for some travelmates (close siblings to the ferraris) means not having Bluetooth.

Consider yourself lucky! There are many, many alternatives to ePM. In fact, windows does much of it for you - Vista does even more.

One of the many eScrewUpMyComputer applications from the never-bother-to-test-it-India-outsourcers that Acer contracts.

It's just unnecessary IMO. I can do everything and more without it.

Too many processes using memory, Not compatible after install of some programs, drivers or upgrades. (ex: IE7)

    It's just bloatware to me.

But yea, to each his own.

Well my personal crib is not irrational. I don't think that ePM counts as a bloatware program, first off. In the version that I got with my c314, it never remembered the settings I chose after a reboot. Also, new profiles don't load, and went back to default settings. Acer has never updated the program for the tablet c310 tablet line, and so I never bothered with it. It might be that newer Acers have a better edition of ePM.
