    Hi

I have an Aspire 5102WLMi thats got loads of linux partitions on it as well as XP that it came with!!!

I was wanting to restore back to the way it was when I bought it from Comet. I went on to the e-recovery management whlst booting up the laptop and noticed i could restore to "factory default" which i nearly clicked!! But I didn't know whether it would just wipe my C drive or it would restore my laptop to what it was like when I got it out the box. It came with quite a bit of software like PowerDVD NTI Cd maker etc which i want to keep, but I'm a little concerned about restoring.

Also it said it would completely wipe the C drive...what about my D drive?? its on the same hard drive but just another partition. Again when i got it out of the box brand new it had a C and D drive both roughly 50GB.

Has anyone got any advice?? I would just like to revert back to what it was like when I had bought it from Comet.

If it came with a C and a D part, when you do the factory restore it will wipe the entire drive and put back the C and D as it was out of the box.

    Hi All

Sorry to borrow the thread- but this is a related question:

If I (hypothetically) were to restore from the 'Factory Default' discs that I have burned from eRecovery management for my new Aspire 5920, would I need to have the recovery partition intact? It seems to me that I wouldn't, and the discs would simply re-format the whole HDD.

    My outline plan is to:
    - Get rid of hidden recovery partition
    - Get rid of 'D' partition
    - Install Ubuntu on freed space.

Recovering Linux is easy, but getting Vista back might be more tricky. And although I expect to be only using it rarely, as I have paid for it, it would be nice to have it available for use!

Not impressed that it didn't come with recovery CDs out of the box, I have to say. Hardware seems nice, however.

Thanks in advance for your input.

    Charlie
