i was wondering if a CPU upgrade was possible on Acer Aspire modells. I have an 5021WLMi with AMD Turion ML-28 2800+ (1600 Mhz, 35W). I would like to buy a Turion MT-40 (2200Mhz) but i'm not sure if that's possible....to upgrade from a ML to MT??

if so....where can i buy an MT-40?? are there any stores that sell does or do i have to buy it from the ebay?

is it possible to mabye upgrade to an turion 64 2xcore processor or is that only supported by AMD2 or what is it now called??

any help would be useful =)

Upgrading to an MT series might be possible. The only issue would be BIOS support which, unless someone has tried will be hard to confirm compatibility. But theoretically the upgrade should work.

Newegg has a good selection of Turions...

Upgading to the X2's will not be possible since as you mention, they use different sockets and use DDR2 memory only.

eWiz has them at a decent price. I haven't ordered from them before but they were good about responding to my email. Newegg carries them too but their price is much higher.

TX2's use a different socket and RAM.

Figuring out how to get to the CPU socket, replacing the CPU, and reassembling the noteboook without breaking anything will be the fun part. Compatibility shouldn't be a problem, the MT and ML series use the same core (just different voltages), but the BIOS might not know how to handle power management on the MT series. Using CrystalCPUID or RMClock will work around that and lets you undervolt (do a search if you're interested in that, lots of info in the HP forum at least).

my CPU is an ML-28 and it runs on 25watt, so do all the MT versions of the cpu also...there shouldn't be a problem??

All ML series are rated at 35W. So, your ML 28 will have slightly higher core voltage than the MT parts.
