    Hello

I want to buy one of them

    ACER 3692
    Intel Celeron M 420 - 1,6 GHz (533MHz)
    512 MB DDR2 533 MHz
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950

    ACER 5101
    AMD Turion 64 MK36 (2,0GHz)
    512 MB DDR2 ..... i don't know the MHz but suppose only 333
    ATI Radeon X1100

Now I totaly don't know what to take. The choose is difficult:

-most important thing is the noise
celeron hasn't speedstep but is new and only 27Watt, some reviews give point it has 47C when idle better then high core 2 duo, but some says thet fan is always on? What is the truth? If the idle celeron is <50C so maybe the fan is off most of the time?

-turion is old an 35W but has powernow so i suppose in undervolting the fan will be off, but in stres it will burn as hell.

-both graphic are bad but ok for me even i think intel should be better cause ati has problem in opengl and intel has good linux driver

-the ram 533 in intel and ?333 in amd

Have You got celeron m420 acers like 3692/3682? Whats about the fans?

    Thanks

the ram speeds are just frequancies the don't make a huge diffrence

my celerons fan is almost always on. that turion with the ati will slaughter the intel with the gma, and i would l laugh if someone else said other wise. (for preformance)

celeron at 47 idle... only with the fan on can mine clock that low my computer with a new bios will clock up to 64 celsius under full load when the room temp is 15 celsius on a warm july day 75 easy.

Edit: my celeron only gets 45 minutes of battery life.

So, is Acer really bad? Loud? Hot?

Acer is starting to look like crap to me, Noise doesnt bother me as long as its not enough to really bug me, and I dont want my laptop getting hot and burning out or something.

(My house is almost alwyas about 20*C - So, meaning it would make my laptop hotter again...)

the fan on mine is not loud and annoying at all but if you do not want the fan noise at all, that likely won't happen in any notebook...

my fan is just a light hum and in a room at 20 it will likely be about 56ish i have never gotten a head ache from it.

i think the quietiest i have ever seen was a sony, but they do cost alot more

if you want a quiet computer try and look for a newer turion or a low volt Pentium M.

don't get me wrong i love my acer and it has done well if you want something with no fan noise at all good luck. a celeron or a turion likely will not have no fan noise...
