ok so i have the Acer Aspire 5135. I got the Black & Decker 400w car adapter thing for it. It says to use battery clips (meaning directly hooking up to the car battery) for applications over 80w. How much power does the Acer use? Please respond quickly. Thanks

Calculate watts.
For the numbers check the label on your power supply. ie. mine says 19.5V and 3.34A = approx 65W -
most standard laptops use chargers rated from 80-120 watts max, so that's your MAXIMUM power it could possibly use. TBH, most cigarette ports I've seen are rated at 115W anyway, so you'll probably be safe using the plug.
That said, if you're only going to be using the inverter in one car, I'd really recommend doing a proper install job in the passenger footwell and attaching the clips to the battery (or bolting them onto the terminals properly).
Just more professional, that's all lol. -
You won't need clips, most likely. I have a pretty power-hungry laptop and I usually idle around 30W, maxing out at like 55W under moderate load. My power brick is rated at 120W, which is almost double of the typical 65W brick. I'd assume your computer will use a bit less than mine.
