Heya all, Im considering buying a acer 2920 which has vista installed. Now what i need to know is how to create a bootable installation disk (from the operating system itself)

Iv doen some research and found that already installed o/s are OEM. So phoned the people and they say they dont provide an installation disk - but a system recovery disk, and a recovery disk isnt the same as installation disk.

Ive googled that but havent found a solid answer - so how do i create a bootable vista installation disk from the laptop itself?

There was something called eRecovery(or something like that) in the ACER tools. With this tool you can make a copy of your D2D partition and therefore - a Recovery CD.
But why do you need a Recovery CD since you have D2D? Want to delete the D2D partition and use the space..?

Anyway, this is what I got. Later when BigO wakes up will help you more(if I am wrong or you want something else entirely that I didn't get) :D

the answer is covered in the USERS MANUAL

it tells how to create the RECOVERY DISKS...
Acer includes an application called eRecovery and it allows you to make recovery disks... and even do different types of backups

manufactures save $$$ by not including a MICROSOFT copy of software.. then save a few pennies more by making us burn our own recovery disks

    later,
    bigO

when you first start the laptop you will be asked to burn 2dvds or 6cd's. please do, as this will be your copy of windows for your laptop and a copy of the app's.
you will then have a bootable recovery.
Alt+F10 opens eRecovery when you have windows up and running this will also give you the option to make a bootable recovery disk/disks.
    have fun,
    Phil :D

Yes I know how a recovery disk will be created but Im not asking about a recovery disk - Im talking about an Installation disk, how do I create a bootable installation disk???

Ive asked the shop which sells tha laptops and they dont supply the OEM version of the installation disk - so if I buy the laptop i will be stuck without a installation disk????

    Yep this is correct.
But a Recovery CD is even better than OEM installation CD(which you cannot use in other computers anyway), because with the Recovery CD you not only get a fresh OS installation, but all drivers installed too. The only think I don't like in it, is that you get the ACER stuff preinstalled too..and yeah you have to use your on CDs/DVDs..

Yes but can u use that same recovery disk to create a dual booting system. This what im hoping to achieve a vista and xp dual boot
    (please look at this link:

    http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_...talled_first__the_stepbystep_guide.htm?page=4

    it says

So the question is can I use the recovery disk in the situation provided in this tutorial - where I need to boot off a vista dvd????

Im pritty sure that i would need a proper installation disk than a recovery disk??

Check this out. I'm pretty sure that since ACER do not provide installation CD, will have preinstalled the StartUp Repair build in the F8 menu..Can't confirm this because I don't have Vista right now.

If like me u got a upgrade dvd, then instead of upgrading jst boot from it and then u can install any version of vista u want, aslong as u have the liscence or other methods.
