    hi
I recently bought an Aspire 5920G with geforce8600M GT 512MB and windows vista premium.
My graphics card takes more than 700 MB from the RAM memory.
I would like to know if there's a way to make it take less or even disable this option?

Well i have the same lappy how do you know its using that much?
it only uses memory in gaming or when you connect to a screen.
Are you confusing the availible shared memory with the memory it actually uses? And i dont think that there is a way to disable it.WHy did you encounter any problems with it?
oh yea and could you please tell me where you saw the memory usage for the card?

I see it in the display settings -> advanced settings:

total available graphics memory - 1279MB
    dedicated video memory - 512MB
    system video memory - 0MB
    shared system memory - 767MB

In some games I fill it. Far Cry 2 is a good example, it always crushes on my computer while on my brother's computer it works fine : LG - core2duo 7250 with geforce 8400 128MB

and also if it's upto 1280MB, it's suppose to be optional for the user.

yea thats just showing available shared memory and
since 512mb is more than enough i dont think it can
even use that much, maybe if you hook it up to like
a 42'' lcd and play games there maybe it would use some
    but i dont think so.
About the game idk but i have the same laptop with t7300
    2gb ram and ddr2 8600m gt 256mb upto 1024mb
and i can play fallout 3 on high settings @ 30fps.
    Maybe you need new drivers
laptopvideo2go.com 176.xx by acer really good ones.

The 8600mGT has a 128 bit bus meaning it can only address up to 256mb or ram anyway.

So it won't be using system ram.

    Hope this helped.
