    bought a acer6930G 3 months back preinstalled with vista home premium SP 1 32 bit..core2duo, 4GB, 320 GB HDD, 256MB Nvidia, 16" LCD

getting a lot of problems with it already:

    1) won't shut off either on battery or ac power. Shuts down and after couple of minutes restarts and i get the Acer Arcade screen. when i Exit from that says windows XP is hibernating and turns off. Then again restarts to after some time. I tried putting on sleep and but comes out of sleep. My entire battery gets drained throughout the night so i assume must be restarting many times..Also with battery even if i pick it up and put it in the case it restarts.

    2) while working the Windows Media Centre window keeps on popping up almost continuously for about 20-30 times n then stops. then will start all over again all by itself. (maybe this is related to the shut down/sleep problems??)

    please help..

Have you installed XP or you still have Vista?
I presume you didn't have any problems in the beginning but appeared after a point (software installation possibly). The problems you have looks like there is a conflict(s) with the installed software or settings.
Can you give us more details in that respect? Have you installed any software or drivers?
If you have Vista you might be able to find what is the problem with the ''Performance and Reliability Monitor'' or the ''Problem Reports and Solutions''. I suggest you for now to back up all your data and install windows vista again and the updated drivers from Acer Support. Or you can uninstall the software or drivers or codecs you recenlty installed and see if that will bring you stability. There is also the possibilty you have a virus or trojan so an antivirus scan or windows defender scan might be helpful
You mention also that working on WMC a window pops up, which window?

if you haven't switched off or played with system restore.
take a look and see if you have a restore point before you removed or installed any software.

    just a thought
    Phil :D

PS. always try the easy opitions first.

1)I still got Vista. The only recent software i installed is Mcafee Security Suite 2009. I'll try out the ''Performance and Reliability Monitor'' or the ''Problem Reports and Solutions and let u know.

    2) it's the WMC itself which keeps on opening up by itself. When i try to put the laptop to sleep it wakes up after some time and the WMC is open. I need to close the WMC like 20-30 times...then it's start again after some time

3)i tried restore but problem still there

If you haven't installed anything else but McAfee then there is the possibilty you have a virus or spyware.
Was there any other antivirus program installed when you bought the laptop like Norton?
I mean the only software you have is what comes with Windows Vista and the Acer software (garbage for me, the only thing they do is making your laptop running slower and they nothing more than the Windows can do), right?
Usually when you buy a laptop, the companies install all this garbage that you can try for 30 days or 90 days and after that period they just lie there doing nothing more than conflicting with other software.
Try to update Windows and McAfee and run full scans with the McAfee and Windows Defender if you can.
A good tool to use is the CCleaner as it will clean your registry and any garbage data you may have (like cookies, temporary files, temporary internet files etc).
Let us know if you found anything in the Performance And Reliability Monitor.

The only option I can give you the best and not make it a complicated discussion is.....

    - First of all get norton and remove that macfee since its a worth nothing software. it cant even detect any virus accurately.

    - second of all restore the entire OS by recovery using e-recovery from acer biult in your laptop. Make all data back up and get it scanned on camp with norton antivirus for viruses. I can bet and tell you have a trojan.

    - I also use aspire 6930G and dont have any probs since I am using Norton antivirus 2009 fully updated.

Do you understand now what I am trying to tell you???

just seen a pc doing the same thing. its a TROJAN trying to use WMC to connect to the net or another pc/laptop on a network.

you will need to do a factory restore.just did this on a DELL and all is working fine...like a pratt i didn't get the name of the trojan.
try and shut down all the methods WMC use's to get on the net or your network.

ok then, first try and stop windows updates(that likes to check every 20-30mins for updates)
so does justsched.exe and a few other bits of software.
next switch off wake on lan in the bios.
next if you can get into it, msconfig start-up tab switch off as much as you can from starting at start-up. if your not sure of an entry google it.
then google your running processes in Ctrl+Alt+del. and stop them or just lower there priority, once again if your not sure google it. :D

    good luck
    Phil :D

Come on guys...Thats definately not the issue out here....She\he has a problem regarding computer when put into sleep or hibernation it wont but indeed restart automatically but when click on shut down it wont...

Also, look at the problem indication like windows media center poping up 20 - 30 times on its own......also sometime computer booting into acer arcade mode...

I will tell you exactly what to do..........

    - Get to acer website and scroll under support and drivers.
    - Select your model variant and download the new bios version that avialable "v 3121".
    - Flash it in windows and reboot.
    - One problem solved and now other
    - Open Acer Arcade Center and check for update as Acer has officially not provided the version thats compatible with OS properly configured I mean.
    - Allow it to download the update.....The file size may be 60-70MB as an update..........Intall it and reboot your system.
    - This should clear the conflict between Acer Arcade and Windows Media Center.
    - If the problem still presets then all I say is Since Aspire 6930G isnt meant for XP thats what acer say and thats what I would say switch back to your original OS Windows Vista Home Premium SP1...

But, in the end I would say that flashing your bios and updating the acer arcade would solve your all problems...........

    All the best
