    Hi,

I bought a acer tm 204 in 2006. A few days ago the fan started to go at full speed continously. It is so annoying beacause of the noise. I've tried to restart it, but same thing happens. It can't be that it's actually warm, beacuse it feels cool. ANd the room is cool as well. Very greatful for any help, cause it drives me crazy. And I cant use it in the classroom beacuse of the noise.

    Thanx,
    Reca

Try booting into safe mode and see if it stops. It could be caused by a program running the processor at 100%.

Yes, go with checking how much percentage the processor is running (start->run->taskman.exe and then the performance tab), also you might want to try using NHC or something similar to see how hot the computer actually is (of course it could also be that the temperature monitor has broken and the fan thinks the computer is too hot all the time, no idea how likely this is but I could see it as one possibility).

    Hi again,
It worked for a while not allowing the computer to run at full processor-speed, and put the backlight on the monitor down... But lately the computer has started to run the fan at full speed continuesly again.

How do I boot it into safe mode when this happens?

    Thanx, reca

Well, I've checked the percentage, and it is mostly below 20% CPU-usage. So I think it could be as you say, that the temperatur monitor has broken.. How do I check it? What is NHC? And how do I monitor the temperature with it? Could the fan problem be a software-problem?

    Thanks, reca
