i have the aspire 5050-3242. it has a "100gb hard drive". but i noticed its split into two 50gb hard drives when i go into my computer. this did not bother me but i am running out of space on the first one and it doesn't seem like its naturally bleeding over into the second one like i thought it would. and its giving me little warnings even though i have all that space thats not being used.
what can i do?

Start using the second drive.
Unfortunately you have to manage what's on drive 1, and what's on drive 2.
Most people I believe (if they keep it setup as two 50gb drives) would keep personal stuff on drive 2 and OS/Programs on Drive 1. -
Although your hard drive is physically one drive it is logistically set up as two seperate drives and that's how your operating system sees it. If you open Windows Explorer you will see both a C: drive and a D: drive. Those are the two pieces of your hard drive that make up the whole.
Whenever installing a program or saving data you will ahve to specify if it should go to the C: or the D: drive - this is not done automatically for you.
Alternatively you could eliminate the second partition and just have one large drive should you wish to do so. -
thanks guys. i guess i'll try to work with two drives unless i end up thinking it'll be more efficient having it together, in which case i'll be posting about how to do that. haha.
take it easy -
I am also having the same problem. If i wanted to partition the two drives together would i have to reformat the first drive?
thanks in advance -
Normally this is how it goes. It tells you there is no disk space when the first partition is full. Try moving your audio and video files on the other partition and keeping the current partition for windows programs and stuff.

Hi,
there are tools like Partitionmanager. With them you can kill the last partition and resize to the full size of the HDD. If you want to use the recovery function of the notebook do not kill the PQ Partition. This Partition is hidden. I read here that there also could be problems with the recovery function if you have only one partition.
Personaly i resized the first partition to 20GB and gave the rest to the D: Partition because i needed the space.
I also switched to the ntfs filesystem because of its security. I read here also that this step could bring problems with the recovery function.
I hope i could help you

Two partitions is nice though... you can reinstall windows if it's on your C:, and everything on your D: stays as it was.
