just a few comments on the acer ferrari 4005WLMi:

i just bought one recently and i noticed that some of the icons in the start menu and on the task bar near the clock appear blurry or fuzzy. do you encounter this type of problem?? i havent changed the display settings and it is set at 1680 X 1050, at 120dpi and 32bpp.

the mouse is also a bit laggy, especially when it is charging. it takes a while before the pointer moves, even if i have dragged it already. and i agree that acer should have placed some sort of charging meter to determine how much charge is left on the mouse. and an on/off switch wouldnt hurt too.

other than that, the laptop works perfectly. :)

My mouse didn't really work at all - I mean, it only really worked 1/5th of the time. It took me awhile before I realised that it actually was connected, it just didn't move the way it should. I am curious, tho, to see if anyone else has tried a different bluetooth mouse with it, in case it's the bluetooth transmiter on the laptop that is the culprit?

Thanks for commenting on your purchase. We like to have user comments around here.

Yes, the mouse is the gripe of a lot of people - bunch of other threads discussed that. I'm not sure if we ever figured out why it was so laggy, etc. Well, it's more of a gimmick than anything else, and it's the notebook that counts.

If the fonts, etc. are blurry, try this:
Right-click Desktop > Properties > Appearance tab > Effects > and under "Use the Following Method to smooth edges of screen fonts, change that to "ClearType". That should fix everything for you.

    Have fun. :)

thanks chaz! the fonts are better when i changed it to Cleartype. but the icons are still the same blurry ones... its not really a problem, but i was just wondering why they are fuzzy.

One thing I noticed to improve the mouse was to get the real bluetooth device driver instead of the one it comes with. I totally forget how I got it, but perhaps someone here will remember.. I just know that doing that helped out a fair bit. Also it allows you to use the bluetooth with other devices better.

I'm working at 130% DPI and Cleartype, plus setting a minimum font size in Firefox. The fonts are fine.

As for icons, some icons were simply designed at a lower resolution, so when you bump up the resolution, the image detail doesn't increase with it. There's nothing wrong with your system - the image just wasn't made with enough detail.

I find that the Ferrari mouse works alright when plugged in... though that does defeat the purpose of bluetooth (being wireless).

How do I get this "better bluetooth driver?"

I think the bluetooth drivers are from Widcomm and have more complete features than the ones included in SP1 or 2 that are from microsoft. Not sure where to find them exactly, widcomm has been bought out by broadcom and I couldnt find any links on the website.

Sorry to hear that the mouse isn't working well for several of you folks. I just received my Ferrari and I think it works great so far -- let's hope it stays that way!

My BT mouse also worked ok. But I replaced it with a laser mouse anyway. More accurate, plus lots more buttons and functionality.
