Hi/ This notebook was running ok for the last 14 months then over the last 3 months battery was not fully charging, gradully got worse and now will not boot up. Took out battery will not run on AC power either. Have 2 Acers in house tried swopping battery chargers they are not at fault. Cannot swop batteries as differant models if I take out and re-insert charger lead it will attempt to start then stops after 10 secs. When ac lead is in only the blue light at front of notebook is showing, amber light is not on.
    ANY ideas?

Hello and welcome to NBR! :)

If you want my look on this, your 'dead' laptop has nothing to do with your battery. I think it is your motherboard gone bad actually. What you can try is to unplug everything, your battery, AC adapter and all usb's that are plugged in. Then hold down the powerbutton for about 30 seconds. Then plug the AC adapter in and try to start your laptop without the battery. Further on, it can be one of your RAM sticks gone bad, your HDD going insane or your CPU.

If unplug trick does not work, you can try with one of your RAM sticks.

But again, it does not sound like it is your battery. If it was your pattery going bad, it would work perfecetly fine after you unplug it. However, you can get anyone else to confirm that.

I've also had problems with a 5741 not charging the battery fully, but I just removed the battery and it is running fine on just AC. It may be that there are 2 different problems at play for you.

You could try searching online for the 5741 service manual, it has detailed instructions for disassembly of your machine, may be a detached lead somewhere.
