    I apologise if this is a stupid question, if ethernet adapter is not listed in device manager does this mean it does not work, is disabled, please clarify as my laptop acer aspire 5920g has no ethernet listed, no wireless listed i.e. no network at all, wireless did work but has been disabled and noe does not shoe in device manager. I have up to date bios running win 7 64bit new clean install thank you.

    Hi

    If you go Network & Sharing Centre, on the left you should see Change Adapter Settings. Go into there. Are your ethernet and wireless adapter listed? If so, you may be able to re-enable them from there?

    Hope this helps.

    Can't be visible in Network & Sharing Centre if it's not seen by Device Manager.

    @OP
    Did you install drivers for this equipment and chipset drivers (Intel INF file)?

    The lan is onboard the mobo, i have looked everywhere i can for a driver tried vista nogo, combatability nogo, when i changed the wireless adapter it installed the drivers joy surfed for a while but it was gone after boot up again.Windows seems to remove it? never had ethernet, it is on a broadcom 5787m chip this is an acer aspire 5920g 6A4G25BI

    No point asking Acer they are not interested if you change the operating system they will not talk to you unless you phone their premium phone line then it takes a long time for them to tell you they do not support changes in the operating system !! Will never buy acer again

    Check your BIOS. The onbaord network adapter may be disabled there.

    Hi,

    at first check if some devices are hidden in Device Manager. Follow the instructions given in this MSKB article (method is still applicable with newer flavours of Windows).
    If your network adapters are there, (but hidden), then uninstall them and reboot. See what happens.

    If the adapters do not show up at all, then some hardware might be faulty. Otherwise, they should show up as "unknown device" at least (in case there is a driver problem).
