Intel Pentium M 1.86GHz, 1GB of RAM, 15.4" CrystalBrite, Mobility Radeon X600 128MB, solid build, and top-notch dual-channel speakers for CAD$1699.99? I believe I even saw it selling for $1675. I know you can't compare an Acer with a LG, but man, the LW60 has half the amount of RAM and sells for ~$500 more.

    Well, consider this.
Acer makes A LOT of notebooks, there's just not that many in N. America.

Also, notice that their notebooks are non-configurable - that helps keep costs down, because they only have to manufacture a specific model and not worry about putting in special parts. That's why most of them are fully spec'd out.

Haha I asked myself the same question too when I came across the Aspire 1692 that I just bought. I got I GB ram, 100 GB hard drive, X700 graphics, 1.7 ghz pentium m processor, and a 15.4" crystal brite screen for $1519 CDN plus tax. (Originally $1599 but they took some $ off b/c it was a display model on for 5 days and had a scratch).

For the specs, Acer seems to be VERY cheap. Couldn't get something with those specs for that cheap anywhere else that I know of.

I got the same as Tech_Girl but I got the 2GHz chip not the 1.73. Are you looking at the 1694? if so it's the best laptop I've every owned.

I just bought a 1691 for $1000 - $100 MIR at newegg.com. I don't game, so I didn't need dedicated video or a super fast hard drive, but I did want Centrino, 15.4" crystal bright, and DVD/CDRW, and that's what I got with this Acer. It also has DDR2 (533) memory, which I didn't see on any of the other systems I looked at under $1400. So far the notebook rocks, and as far as I can tell, can't be beat value-wise. ;)

    Hey
    where did u get the 1694 w/ x600 w/ 128 megs of dedicated ?
ncix has the 1694 w/ a x700 w/ 64 megs of dedicated though , i haven't really been able to get past that its only 64 megs , for some reason i'm still sold on having more memory as opposed to having a bit faster gpu
