I want to purchase the Acer TravelMate 8104WLMi at ebuyer.com since their price is the lowest (today). But they don't have the Acer 3 Year Notebook Total Protection Warranty (Part #: 146.AD077.002 - same as EW.NAT03.200). I found that places like thenerds.net sells the warranty. But I'm not sure if Acer will honor the warranty if it is purchased from a dealer different than the one I buy the notebook from. Has anyone done this before?

You can buy a warranty directly from Acer within 2 weeks of purchase. The total protection covers shipping both ways (shipping can get costly if something goes wrong and you have to keep sending it back), accidental spills and drops. This is for the US site

If you purchase the warranty from Acer, its US$280.00. If you search the Internet, you find prices between US$170.00 and US$211.00 for Acer 3 Year Warranty. I'd like to save the US$100.00 if possible. It's just not clear if Acer would allow the notebook and THIS warranty to be purchased at separate dealers.

I called Acer's 800 Support number and asked the Rep if I could purchase the warranty from a place other than where I am purchasing the Notebook. He said it was OK. So I've ordered my 8104 and warranty at separate places and they should arrive within days of each other. Price of the warranty was US$168 for 3 Year Total Protection.
