When will these 13" Timelines go on sale? Provantage says backordered. Will Walmart carry them since they have the 15"?

Post any links or places where you find them!

    Found 2 XP Pro models:
    Core 2 Solo SU3500
    Core 2 Solo SU9400

ETA: End of June 09 The price difference between a SU3500 and SU9400 is crazy high. And where are the models with the ATI 4330 switchable graphics?

Yeah those 2 are too much $$$ for me. I don't need a fast processor, I rather have battery life.

    Garbage prices Acer, garbage.

Why would I buy a CULV dual core 3810T when I can get a Lenovo X200 with the same battery life and more performance for the same price?

looks are subjective. the x200 is one sweet piece of machinery, but the lack of hdmi out and the smaller screen is a bit of a downer to me.

with the x200, you get more computing power. with the 3810t, you get a bigger screen. for me, since i don't need that much power in my notebook, it makes sense to me to go for the 3810 since i like the bigger screen and slightly higher res. i also prefer the touchpad (again, subjective).

so IF the 3810 is indeed released at the 900 price point i'll be all over it. any higher and i'll have to side with chuck on this one. the acer's advantages don't justify such a high price.

the 5810T is now available for pre-order on amazon.com, and has been at walmart...and i know that the 4810T is available at staples. more and more stores are carrying timelines, so hopefully the 3810T should be right around the corner.

Well, my Asus G1S is fresh out of warranty and the GPU just died (a friendly greeting to all you Acer 5920G owners out there, the 8600M GT really sucks...).

So I ordered my next laptop, which is going to be the 3810T with SU9400 and X4500HD. Should be here in about a week, so if you have some questions, ask them and I try to answer them as soon as possible. :)

Yes, in Austria to be specific. I will check with some HD content. I got a 1080p MKV file with H264, a 720p MKV with H264 and a 720p WMV HD file. Is that enough? :)

For me, the ultimate question will be the choice of CPU among SU2700, SU3500 and SU9400.
I hope someone will do a through benchmark on these soon.

Don't get the SU2700, it has a 10W TDP (same as the dual core SU9400), while the SU3500 has a 5.5W TDP. And the SU2700 has no virtualization (meaning no XP mode in Windows 7 if you needed it).

    Thank you, Jayayess1190.
That Virtualization info is good to know since I was going to put Windows 7 RC as soon as I get one.

It is also important to know the stability issue with preloaded Acer programs.

My 3810T is in the mail! You can expect my first impressions on Friday. I'm really looking forward to this!

In my opinion, there is no reason not to get the dual core version. In todays multitasking world, everything is better with 2 cores. And if you really get 8 hours of battery life out of the dual core, the performance drop is just not worth the price drop. Get a netbook instead. :D

My local reseller is quoting a 1-week lead time for the Core 2 Solo machine, which would put it pretty close to Amazon UK's lead time.

If it's actually 8 hours in real life I'd definitely be interested. If it's an Apple 8 hours, then meh.

apparently the new apple macbook pros are achieving a real world 8 hours, according to anandtech.

Here we go, the hype cranks on...

No they're not. Under true real-life ekeing scenarios (with heavy concessions to power saving - minimum screen brightness, etc but with wifi on) I can't replicate any of those other runtimes that appear in the charts - and I've owned / own all of them in that list bar the new models.

For example, Apple claim 5 wireless productivity hours with the Rev.A Crapbook Air. I couldn't get more than 3.75 in real-life scenarios - and we aren't talking one-off testing but day in, day out. Similar story with the new 17-inch Crapbook Pro. Claimed: 8 hours. Real: A few minutes shy of 6. If Anand had been handed one, I'm sure he'd have reported it as a 9-hour'er - It's total BS.

Sure - you can make them go longer, as I could for example take the Sony TT into the 12-hour range with an extended battery (and if the MBP is the highest battery life that Anandtech has every seen by his unrealistic testing scenarios, he's clearly not scored many Sony or Toshiba review samples), but the laptop wouldn't actually be doing any wireless productivity in the process.

This is what I meant about real life 8 hours.

Apple claim 7 hours of wireless productivity for the MBP's and I very much doubt I'll get more than 5:30 - 5:45. Any more will also make a mockery of their past claimed runtimes of course.

yeah i agree that apple tends to inflate their claims. however, i've been a reader of anandtech for over 5 years, and in general they tend to write fair and comprehensive articles. anand achieved 6.5 hours with half screen brightness and surfing the web with flash constantly on. in my opinion that's pretty indicative of real world usage. with surfing with no flash, he got over 8 hours, which obviously is not quite real world...but still impressive.

i'm not an apple fanboi by any means, but i give apple props for this crop of MBPs. it's a sweet notebook. unfortunately, a few of the important programs i want to run don't run on macs, so i'm still going with the acer timeline :)

Impressive? Out of a notebook with a non-replaceable battery? If I do the same 'test' as Anand on a year-old Sony SZ with a replaceable extended battery, I can get ~11 hours - And it'll still weigh less than the unibody Crapbook

However it doesn't mean it's actually achievable for me in real life - which is, as I said, why I asked about real life, not Apple (especially, but many other manufacturers are as optimistic) runtimes.

well, you would know better than i, since i can't say i've ever owned a macbook before. however, i still say that the new MBPs pack a very nice combination of performance, and battery life. 6.5 hours on a non-extended battery is still way ahead of most of the competition.

reviews that i have read so far about the acer timeline would lead me to believe that you will be similarly disappointed with the acer timeline, though. i think laptopmag used a similar test simulation that anand used, and came out with slightly more than 8 hours. i'm thinking that means perhaps 6 hours of "real world" surfing.

    3810T with intel X25-M SSD claims to have 12 hours battery lief;
so does that mean real world battery life is around 10 hours?

I personally use laptop with 50% or 40% brightness and power down the cpu speed to minimum + with wireless on; how long can a claimed 12 hours 3810T last according to my setting? (o, and no music on)

I very much doubt it. In my experience an SSD doesn't at this point in time (and my only experience is with the X25-M and the Vertex) provide huge power savings over the latest HDD's - certainly not enough to enable a 50% battery extension.

My most frequently used machine these days is the 2.4 unibody Crapbook and I get ~4 hours on extreme eking 'real wireless productivity' with the Vertex than about 15 minutes less, if that, I used to get with the HDD. Fact is, HDD motors are incredibly efficient these days.

Windows 7 tells me 6 hours 22 minutes with WLAN, full brightness and no Acer tools installed. Windows Power Saver mode is Balanced.

With less brightness, Win7 told me 12 hours. So that's probably where the x25 claim comes from.

These battery results are very tempting. If Acer resolves the issues with the high CPU usage and blank screen issues that some people are experiencing, I'd be very tempted to get one now instead of waiting for the Asus/Lenovo ones.

Windows tells me a lot of things especially when it's just started. Used to tell me 5 hours on a 3.5-hour Sony TR for starters. Doesn't mean it'll actually run for that time. It'd be good if you could keep timing your usage and see what you actually get.

This might be old news, but... the mythical beast exists! At least in theory... and in Romania... I'm talking about the dual core, 9400 model with ATI 4330 graphics, which is the only one I'm interested in.

    http://www.marketonline.ro/notebook-laptop/notebook-acer-aspire-3810tg-944g50n-timeline-core2-duo-su9400-500gb-4096mb

Of course, it says "stock zero", so I guess there's a chance it will never appear, but at least there's hope!

    The price is 3816 RON = 1,271 US$, or 904 €.

Nice, I would love to get it too, but already the SU9400/GMA 4500 version is $899.99, so this one would probably be over $1k.
