Ive got an Acer 6920g and upgraded the CPU from a T5800 to a T9300, ime happy with that upgrade all works well

My next thing ime thinking of ordering is a Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb SSD Drive
It will cost me around £90 (the CPU cost me £100)

Is there anything to make this laptop better?
Ime only doing the upgrades for my own satisfaction. And will soon think about getting a 8935g (i have a few acer laptops and done alot of simply upgrades (like ram,cpu and hard drives)

Also i noticed someone saying something about a ppl pin mod?
any info on things i can do with this laptop will be great.

    thanks

Well if you want to have fun with it why don't you try upgrading your GPU to Radeon HD4650 (see here).
That would cost you but then again 4650 is a lot faster compared to 9500M GS.

i was looking at upgrading the gpu.

is there a big diffrence? and does £80 sound about right for the gpu?

hmm for the ati 4650 it cost around £70-£80
but the 9500m gs cost aroun £100-£130

    why is that?

Are you sure you're looking at ATI Mobility Radeon 4650?
I should be more expensive than that.
This user got his 3DMark06 score from 3300 with 9500M GS to 4800 with HD4650.

You need an MXM-II card. Keep in mind that HD4650 DDR2 which you can buy is slower than HD4650 DDR3 that was available in retail notebooks but it hard/impossible to come across on e-bay or such.

No idea- I've never seen one and I'm not sure there ever was MXM-II DDR3 version available.
You may want to consider HD4760 DDR2 from mxmupgrade if you're willing to pay the price.

HD4670 is in fact factory OCed HD4650- it may run hotter than 4650 for that reason but its core is 675MHz compared to 550MHz in 4650 (still only DDR2 though)
That said you'd be first to install it in 6920G AFAIK but then again mxmupgrade is a lot more helpful than some e-bay seller when it comes to installing a GPU or modding a heatsink etc.

what is the spec of your ddr2 ram will it run at 1066mhz
if it will then you could have got a better cpu that runs at 1066 fsb

when i got my 8930 it had a 800mhz fsb cpu(which meant the ram also ran at 800 mhz), even though the ram was rated to 1066mhz
so upgrading my cpu to one that ran at 1066 meant the ram was able to run at that speed also

One small problem with that, shakennstirred: the 6920G uses the PM965 chipset, which maxes out at an 800 MHz FSB and 667 MHz DDR2 RAM speed. The 8930G uses a different chipset and DDR3.

Any particular reason you're going for the 18.4" behemoths?
Between the two, I'd be inclined to opt for the 8935G. It can support a quad-core CPU (compatibility with the 8930G is speccy at best), it can hold two hard drives, and the most important part: it's got an MXM-A slot and a better selection of stock GPUs (Radeon HD 4650/4670, GeForce GT 130M).
Heck, someone's already upgraded their 8935G to a nice and shiny GeForce GTS 250M

    that sounds preety good.

so if i was to get that one (8935) would that one be able to be upgraded alot more?

quad core, faster ram and better graphics plus 2 seagate momentus xt 500gb drives

Yes, but why focus on the upgradeability of a given notebook when you could get better specs from the get-go?
A large chunk of the latest Aspire series would have better performance than the 8935G, even upgraded. The 8943G, for example, has Core i7 quad-core processors and a Radeon HD 5850; both of which will dust even an upgraded 8935G.

All laptops with an ODD can be replaced with a second HDD. Hey, TehSuigi, did all mod colours just get changed to orange?

@chris9191: It does have room for two hard drives. When in doubt, check Acer's own specs.
@sgogeta4: I was wondering the same thing. Might have something to do with this Sunday...
