I have what is probably a dumb question, here goes; I just bought an acer aspire one two days ago and when I unplug it while using it, it shuts off. Do i need to give it more time to charge? I want to use it without the cord, that's why I got a portable laptop. Thanks to anyone who can help answer my probably ridiculously stupid question :)

Make sure the battery is in the laptop. If it is then you should see a little icon with the battery in the bottom/top of your screen depending on what OS you are using. Once that battery reaches "fully charged" then unplug it and enjoy. A battery can take around 1-2 hours to charge depending on its size.

If you did all that and it is still turning off when you unplug it then you may have a bad connection.

Thanks Meegulthwarp, you were right. I didn't even have the battery on the back. I thought it had looked strange and exposed in the back. You rock!
