    Hi guyz,
    Lovely forum here,
Guys I would like to know if the warranty from the acer voids if I upgrade the RAM.
Well the story is,I purchased the laptop and instantly upgraded to 6 gb from 3 gb.
Today i went to the service center, the service man is saying he would check if the warranty is still valid after watching the torn sticker.
I would like to confirm from u guys is the warranty is still valid ?
BTW the shop from which i purchased the laptop says warranty does not void by upgrading the ram.

    specs:
    Acer TimelineX 4820GT
bought from: Hyderabad,INDIA, 2 months ago.

In general ti doesn't void warranty unless a hardware failure is an effect of the upgrade i.e. if you short something, use faulty modules etc.
Other than that you can change HDD, RAM and Wi-Fi (basically what's available after opening service hatch but without dismantling the notebook).

FIRST: The problem is sometimes it could indirectly affect the warranty. Since you have a machine that cmae with 3gb of ram it probably came with a 32 bit OS. You won't be able to to use much of the 3 gb of ram that you added unless the OS is 64 bit.

I had a Gateway desktop i purchased awhile back and I was beginning to fail. When i called Gateway they asked me what OS I was using and I had purchased a new OS (retail version) so they told me to call Microsoft and blamed it on the software. I finally got fed up and went out and bought a graphics card that Gateway supported on the model and replaced it myslef and wow I was able to reach the resolution that was documented with the system. I discovered that the graphics card shipped with the system was flawed from the beginning.

the morale is if you do make changes sometime you have to fight with the vendor sometimes it seems like they are trained in ways to fight the customer over warranty issues.

Typically they will honor the stuff you bought with the system but will fight to say what you added added is the cause of the problem. I recently purchased an Acer AS 8950G and first thing I did was added a SSD and moved the HHD to a second bay. Then I upgrade Windows 7 from home premium to Ultimate.

Acer was helpfull is guiding me on how to add the second and in fact they told me I couldn't but I found and Acer part with an Acer part number of what i needed to have 2 drives on my system.

That time i upgraded my RAM and HDD. About 3 months later, i send it for warranty. They did not void it. In fact, they added new warranty seals stickers :)

Faisal, I'm about to buy the timelinex 4830t, a sister model, and I want to upgrade the ram to 4 or 6 gb, did you end up getting your warranty voided?

Oh, and how easy is it to upgrade? do you just remove the underside cover?
