    Hi
Even as I am typing this it takes like 4 seconds for the words to appear on the screen!

I have an acer 8930g which is one of the better models (904g50bwn) it has a quad core q9000 proecessor 2ghz 6mb l2 cache and 4gb ram, i installed a 2nd 500gb hd and have 1000gb in total.

I have installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (original copy) and it came with vista hp 32 bit

I am at the moment only running firefox with only about 18 tabs (Normally have around 50) memory usage is about 65% but cpu is 100% most of the time when using firefox.

Normal use cpu usage is 20-30%!!

I spent £1200 on this laptop having never spent more than £650, the attraction was the blu ray player and big screen along with good spec. It is performing worse than my old toshiba p300!

I expected a big difference in performance but I am just having these issues.

Is the issue that I am using windows 7 or do you think my machine could be faulty? It does NOT get hot when using it like my toshiba did but it just gets sluggish very often. Also when using task manager it says firefox using 30% cpu usage and no other processes using anything yet it says 100% - doesnt add up?! Does anyone know what that means?

I cannot get a refund on this now and am stuck with it, really disappointed. I didnt use vista that much to know if it performed well with that too.

Anyone else have my laptop spec (its £1199 from comet) or similar and are ok or not? Shall I get a dual core cpu like p9400 or something instead?

    Cheers

I think the culprit behind this problem is yourself.
1st, you didn't set the Power Option probably.
2nd, you installed too much useless crapware/bloatware.
    3rd, viruses perhaps.
4th, maintenance is needed such as CCleaner, Defraggler and so on.
5th, you need to turn-off useless startups for example, Adobe craps.

The reason there's a gap between the processes shown in Task Manager and the CPU % shown on the bottom is because you aren't viewing processes from all users. Click the button with the UAC icon to do so, and that way you'll see what's taking up all your CPU room.

If I were you, I'd back up your data and do a recovery using the DVDs you burned with Acer eRecovery. If that doesn't solve things, download a retail Windows 7 DVD and do a clean install using the license key on the bottom of your machine.

excuse me how do you know any of this?

    1. I have power settings on max performance with both on battery and plugged in.
    2. I only have ms office, adobe master collection and avast.
    3. No viruses I have checked twice.
    4. I do disk cleanup every few days.
    5. I have turned off most of the startup programmes that I do not need.

But I only have 1 user on my pc, always have - why would it have processes for other users when there is only one? Another crap windows problem? This happened with vista too...

I already have a backup which I did when I first got the laptop, I might just go back to vista 32 bit and see if it runs any better, failing that Ill have to send it back to comet, not spending £1200 on a laptop for it to be slow like this as, as I said my tosiba laptop was much faster and it was less than half the price of this.

I have a full version of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, tried doing a fresh install but it still is slow even with just 2 tabs open on firefox. I think there is a problem with the laptop itself by the sounds of it - I just wanted to see if anyone out there has the same spec laptop as me and any issues like mine as I was thinking maybe acer's famous build quality is the issue.

This is my 3rd 8930G. I have had two of them with the 6400 processor, first one the screen was broke, 2nd one kept freezing. So I thought instead of spending £799 on one I would go for one of the better models but this is actually slower than the 2nd 8930G! (its the one that is £799 in argos).

    Thanks anyway.

I have swapped the laptop and installed windows 7 64 bit ultimate again, same software etc and it seems to be working fine, looks like it was a dodgy laptop.

There may only be one user on your machine, but SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, and NETWORK SERVICE processes won't be shown automatically.
Try posting on the 8930 Owner's Lounge if you haven't already.

Thanks but resolved now, swapped for new laptop and working fine - probably was a fault. Weird for DarkSilver to assume things without knowing first though.....

He does have a tendency to do that, but I think it's more of an eagerness to help than any meanspiritedness.
Glad to hear everything got fixed.
