I have a 6920G acer laptop and i want to install a T9300 processor :) but when i come to install it i came across another chip (???) and i have no idea whether to remove the old thermal pad and replace it with a new one or just leave it as it is because that chip doesnt look like it gets hot anyway :S

obviously i know i need to replace thermal pads for both the cpu and gpu chipset (see attached pictures) but what am i supposed to do with the other chip (???) its to the right of the cpu.

help please would be much appreciated

looking at picture the chip i'm referring to is displayed top right or to the left of CPU

    please help :(

I don't see any thermal pads to replace.. just copper and thermal grease.
That 'other' chip is probably the northbridge. Just leave it's grease as it is; make sure not to touch it with your finger.

I hope you have Arctic Silver or Ceramique or some sort of thermal paste to apply to your CPU and GPU.

What namaiki said: the other chip is your northbridge. Leave it and its thermal grease untouched, and you'll be fine.
