    Hello

I want to upgrade the hard drive on the Aspire 5101 from the existing IDE hard drive to a SATA one. After removing the hard drive flap and taking out the hard drive I can see the IDE connector but where is the SATA connector? Do I have to buy a convertor or lead ?

I've tried the Acer website and its not very informative. Any advice appreciated.

As andyasselin has stated, your notebook only has an IDE interface. The benfits of SATA over IDE are very little. SATA was brought in to replace IDe, but it was quite expensive, and Windows Xp didn't have drivers for it, in its built in database.

Performance wise, the upgrade it pointless, as currently, hard drives can not usually get to the 133 MB/s data rate or IDE, and the 150 MB/s of SATA. If you are considering an upgrade, it will benfit more if you go with a faster spin rate, something like 7200 RPM over a 5400 RPM.
