My mom and I bought this laptop for my sister for xmas. It seems decent spec wise and should be adequate for surfing and minor word proc, photo's etc. No gaming. The laptop has a 1.6 GHZ TF-20 which seems to score about 499 vs my AMD64 3000+ in my desktop at 463 (I can't recall the CPU test). The HDD is 250 GB and the memory is 3 GB. All in all, it should be ok for what she needs and if she needs more storage, there is always external HDD or possible replacement of internal, but probably external is best.

I am wondering if I can upgrade the CPU of this laptop now or later and what is the fastest CPU available that will work. I suspect the socket is S1. I have heard of people upgrading some acer laptops from the TF-20 to TF-50 or TF-58 or something similar, but not for this exact laptop, it was another acer model.

Any idea's of what I could possibly upgrade this laptops CPU to? ...if not, where should I look? I am checking out acer's website, but haven't found anything yet. If upgrading voids the warranty, that is a consideration. I'll figure that out later.

thanks in advance for any info,

    :)
