    Hello folks

I am wondering if someone can actually help me on this issuse

I have Acer 5684WLMI laptop which comes with internal wifi card which is ABG now I want to upgrade it to 4965AGN.

Trouble I am having after installing the card is, it cannot see any access points/Wireless Routers whilst there are, after lot of troubleshooting I found out the button in front is disabled & it will not enable even though I have fiddling.

Would anyone know why or how can over come the problem.

    Thanks in advance

Different model but similar problem here. Check my suggestions, so far they're not working for the OP in the other thread but may work for you...
I'm starting to think it's hardware incompatibility..

Thanks for the reply I have tried what is mentioned in the thread the problem I have I do not have "Radio ON/OFF option in the list"

"Go to Device Manager, find your wireless card, right-click select 'Properties'(or double-click on the device). Go to 'Advanced'. Find Radio ON/OFF option from the list. This controls the wireless button. If it's OFF the button is disabled and the antenna is OFF so switch it to ON. Let me know if this work."

    Any more suggestions

are you sure you have set the antenna wires correctly? 3945 only used 2 wires whereas 4965 uses 3 wires.

not necessarily but you need to ensure you have the wires in the right spot on the card.

I upgraded the wifi in my 5315 with the 4965 draft n card. (from an Atheros 5008X)

It was very a straightforward change on the 5315 and worked extremely well, establishing fast, resilient connections.

I put the 2 original antennae, which had slightly thicker wires than the ebay special antenna which came with the 4965, onto the outer 2 connectors of the 4965. The new third antenna was connected to the middle connector.

It is very important to have 3 antennae with 'n' cards - the MIMO part of the technology is all about maximising quality and throughput by exploiting the best combination of the signals to/from all 3 antennae.

Are you seeing the card in the device manager list? Have you installed the latest driver from intel.com?

Thanks for such a valued reply, my wifi card did not come with an antenna hence that means I will have to buy it separately.

Once installed I can see it in the device manager also it say device is functioning properly, the only problem is Radio singles are disabled & I do not understand how to enable them but surely I will try what you have said

    Thanks for Help !!!

I don't think the third antenna lead is the problem. You can run these cards with only two - in fact, I believe Dell installed them in a number of their laptops with only two leads. The reason for the third antenna is for diversity, which certainly is nice to have, but not necessary for the card to work.

    It's probably hardware incompatibility.

I agree with imokruok, if you can see the card in device manager and it claims to be working normally then I would expect some sort of wireless capability.

I was unsuccessful in using Atheros 3DX 'n' cards in my 5315, but they worked ok, in that they sent and received data, but they did not integrate well with the BIOS/OS so they couldn't be controlled via the wireless button.

Do you have another laptop you could try the card in?

I assume if you put your original card back in everything returns to normal (proving nothing odd has happened to the OS or laptop in the meantime).

    Hello Folks

Sorry for such a late reply , well what ever you said is very true, when I put my old wireless card back in all is thumbs up, hence I would like to agree with you guys & accept this as hardware incompatibility.

Thank you very much for all your help & support.

    Cheers
