Hallo, I have an Acer Aspire 5652 WLMi. I've just bought a new battery for it but when I insert it to the laptop after it starts it says "This is not an acer battery please check your battery" and shuts off. Also it doesn't seem to charge because the little orange light flashes instead of staying on. Do you know if there is a hidden program that doesn't allow new batteries? Please help

Chances are the Acer BIOS do not allow the use of non-Acer batteries. You bought a non-OEM battery from what it looks like.

The computer preventing you from using it is actually a good thing, as non-OEM batteries are definitely not safe.

I'm with Greg on this one, please check out the first and last bullets under lithium ion battery Limitations on this link:

    http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-5.htm

Would you want your children asleep upstairs if you thought there was even a small chance that the lithium battery and charging circuit logic were incompatible?

It is generally a bad idea to purchase "repacked" or "pirate" replacement batteries for laptops.

Yes, there are folks that have purchased these "alternatives". And they have worked for a while.

But never as long or reliably as an originally specified battery.

Too many risks involved for very little saving.

Rather replace with the original thing.

    Cheers,
    Theo

I'm not sure I follow all this, if the battery meets the same requirements I see no reason it shouldn't work

Here is an article which might help to explain the dangers better.

    http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/lithium-ion-battery2.htm

Without wishing to be alarmist, there is a real risk of a catastrophic failure of this type of battery causing a fire.

I don't think anyone can say whether a particular battery/charger combination will cause such a failure but the laptop manufacturers must take great care to ensure that the ones they sell and guarantee do not.

    Please be careful.

Thank you guys for your responses. The thing is that I bought this battery from power-tool-battery.com and it supposes to be a battery for this computer. It's not a pirate or repacked battery and it cost me 98$ US. Anyway do you know where I can buy an "original Acer battery" for my Acer aspire 5652 WLMi?

    Thanks a lot
