    Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me with this problem with my Acer Travelmate 4101Lmi. When I power up the laptop appears OK for a minute or two and then the screen will turn white. Sometimes it will flicker black and white, sometime it will stay dark, either way the machine is unusable and I have to hold the power button to shut it down. I've connected up an external monitor and I get no display so to me it looks like a problem with the video rather than the LCD panel.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dogtanian

you are correct after you connected the external monitor did you use Fn+F5 or F6 ?
as this turns on the external display.

Hi Hoggie, Yes I used the Fn +5/6 keys with the external monitor, and there appeared to be no signal.

I'm at a loss as to what this can be. The display comes up after boot for anything up to a minute then goes. Could it be temperature related, or a loose connection somewhere? I started taking the laptop apart last night to see if there where any loose connections but I seemed to be accumulating a large pile of tiny screws and was getting no nearer to the motherboard so lost my nerve and put it all back.

my old travlmate 230 when new used to start then after a couple of mins the screen would have like a rainbow effect(vertical lines)after purchasing a cooling pad and updating the drivers it never returned.
all i did was un installed all video drivers, then updated.(download new drivers before you delete).the cooling pad is the best idea ever.
taking the thing to bits can be scary ;)
